Maria began the trek to Mr. Harris' office. She looked rather odd walking aggressively down the streets of New York in an European dress and pregnant belly but she was filled with determination. Her arms pumped her along as she whistled 'i have confidence'.

She approached the big brick building after about 30 minutes and abruptly opened the door. She ignored the receptionist as she called after her and rode the elevator to the eigth floor. As Maria exited she turned down the window lined hall to the small waiting area with Friedrich's poster. She knew exactly which door she had auditioned through and Harris' office was right next to it. She slammed the door open to find a man with slicked back dark hair sitting at a mahogany desk in front of a window smoking a pipe.

"Sir I need to talk to you" Maria spoke English confidently. Another man appeared from the wall next to where the door was, also holding a pipe and brushing back his brown hair.

"Who are you?!" Harris immediately stood up from his desk and placed his palms on the table in front of him "Why are you here?!" He was firm.

"Sir, my family sings and we need uh-" Maria began but eventually remembered she didn't know how to ramble in English.

The man with brown hair however gently walked to her as if she were a dog about to snap.

"Frau" he spoke in German but with an American accent. "Tell me, tell me what you want to say and I'm sure we can figure this out in a calm way"

Harris relaxed his shoulders a little and withdrew the pipe from his mouth as he watched his comrade.

"Uh will you tell him?" Maria asked nervously and out of impulse put her hand on her stomach.

"Yes" he nodded

"Sir, my name is Maria von Trapp...my family auditioned here a few days ago and you rejected us...I know you have good reasons. We're not exactly practical... I have seven singing children and a toddler and one on the way...we might not be stars on Broadway, we might not sing in English, we don't have sex appeal, we're just a family...there is indeed a market for that, I know it...in Europe there are singing family groups in multiple countries and we won the Kaltzberg festival in 1938...We are trained, we practice religiously and we are willing to work hard...if you want to let a whole family down that is full of potential and passion then be my guest...but when we do sign with a different agent, one with taste, we will be certain to thank you for the opportunity and lack thereof" Maria took a deep breath after each sentence so the man with brown hair could translate. He was obviously incredibly uncomfortable and Harris himself slowly sat back down upon hearing the firm, bold yet endearing words of the foreign woman.

Perhaps he had been wrong after all.
He sighed "Blake, tell her I admire her spirit, no client has ever demonstrated such passion or care for their craft. She's right a family of singing children would be new, fresh, and if it's common across the pond then I say we jump on it before anyone else does."

The man with brown hair, Blake, told this to Maria with a smile on his face. At once Maria's nervous demeanor changed into a look of relief and excitement. She rushed to shake Harris' hand.

"Thank you, thank you" She smiled

"On one condition, I need five thousand dollars for promo and publicity, and to make sure you hold up your end of the contract" Harris held up a finger. Blake once again explained this to Maria and she nodded, too caught up in the moment to register the severity of what he proposed.

Maria rushed out of the building, trying to make it home as quick as possible. She knew her husband and children were probably worried sick about her. By the time she reached the crummy apartment it was dark. She climbed the stairs and walked down the dingy hall to her scuffed door and knocked rapidly.

The Captain opened it and saw his wife's elated yet exhausted expression.

"Oh Georg! Children! I have the most exciting news" Maria said bringing a hand up to her head "I'm so excited I have to sit down" she was out of breath

"What is it?" Brigitta asked as Friedrich pulled a chair for her

"We-we-" she fainted. Her head collapsed on her arms that rested on the table in front of her.

Hey y'all! Sorry for the cliffhanger...oops. Also the amount of Easter eggs in this chapter is astronomical.

Dont worry she's not gonna die
