DEMIS POV
It had been two weeks since Gracens birthday party. And honestly I can't get enough of those two. We've kind of fallen into a routine I normally text them when I wake up. Which is a few hours later than those early birds. Y/N always let's Gracen call me before bedtime. Which was something I had to explain numerous times that I didn't mind a bit. I feel like that took some very good points to come across. Especially the second night they FaceTimed me before bed. Gracen had been a little sleepy and a little grumpy. And she wanted to know if I would sing. But before that you should know when I say they I really mean Gracen grabbed Y/N's phone without her knowing because she missed me. Now when Y/N came in Gracens room asking by who she was talking to she got a little upset when she seen me with my headphones around my neck in what looked like a studio. Because I most definitely was in the studio. But when I answered and Gracie Bell was sad I asked her if she wanted me to sing her to sleep. So, I began singing Warrior. Y/N held the phone and rubbed her back until I heard soft snores. Then the apologies poured out of the mom. We made a deal that Gracen could call me every night before bed and I'd sing her a song. Whatever song she wanted. Y/N did not like that at all. Something about obligations and forcing me to do things. I finally got her to understand no one can force me to do anything. But maybe Gracen and her. Which I definitely left out. So that's why when I got the text this morning that said that Gracen was sick I knew I had to do something. Despite Y/N saying she would keep me in the loop because I told her I'd worry. I hadn't heard anything back. So when my phone went off signaling a text message I knew it had to be them.
Y/N - hey you, sorry we've been MIA. Gracie Bells been sleeping on and off. I'm trying to find something for dinner right now. How's your day?
Demi - im glad to hear she's been getting some rest. I could bring over some soup for her, and whatever you want? That just seems easier. It's been good. I'm at my parents right now lol.
Y/N - honestly Demi, you'd be a life saver. It would be so much easier. Are you sure you don't care? I don't want to burden you! Tell your family I said hello :)
Demi - definitely not a burden. Chicken noodle? I'm kinda feeling soup too. Anything for you? They said hello and they miss you both. And Momma said she's sending some tea for "Bell" lol.
Y/N - chicken noodle is perfect. Maybe with grilled cheese please :) aww thank her for me please! Your family is amazing. So are you!
Demi - grilled cheese for mommy, soup, tea. Would you like to watch a movie? I can bring a few that Gracen has been talking about.
Y/N - omg she would love that. She was so upset that she probably wouldn't feel good enough to talk to you today.
Demi - it's settled then. Give me 45 minutes? Max is calling in the soup and sandwiches right now. I'm gonna run home grab some movies and then I'll be on my way. Btw, I missed you both today! So thanks
Y/N - we missed you. We owe you for dinner! Can't wait to see you.
Demi - nope, but I can't wait to see you guys!
Y/N - oh! Before I forget, the spare is under the plant on the left side of the porch. Just come on in when you get here. We're in the living room :)
Demi - got it. See you soon!
And that my friends is how I ended up in front of the adorable two bedroom house. With soup in hand, some sprite for Gracen, and grilled and orange soda for Y/N. Max kindly walked me to the door and went back to the car as soon as the most beautiful woman on the planet answered the door. She had her hair up in a messy bun. With a light grey tank top on that looked a little darker right about her breast. I'm assuming it's a drool stain from the sleeping five year old. With sweats to match. She had the most gorgeous Y/C/E I'd ever seen. And looking at her now.. with her raised eyebrows and smirk on her face I'm sure she's said something to me and I've been staring like a weirdo.
"Demi? You there?"
I shook my head the tiniest bit before responding. "Yeah, yeah, I brought dinner." I spoke quietly as I shrugged my arms to get her attention off of me.
"Could you please set it on the counter in the kitchen? Gracens in the living room. I'm gonna go check on her real quick."
As I was looking through the cabinets to find bowls I heard the softest whimper. "Momma, can we play Ds songs? I miss her and it'll make me feel better." Followed by a cough. My heart melted. "I think we can probably do that. But I bet she misses you too. How bout we go eat in the kitchen and then we can see about talking to her?" Gracen must've nodded or something because after a minute of rustling I hear footsteps. And then Y/N comes in carrying Gracen with her head resting on her mother's shoulder. I met them half way and rubbed Gracens back as I leaned to kiss her head.
"Hey pretty girl. How ya feeling?" I asked softly. Gracie Bell turned her head and her lips curved up just a little bit. Her arms immediately reaching for me.
"I'm sick D I don't feel good. Mommy said soup would make it better, but you did too." I couldn't help but laugh. "Well I brought chicken noodle, and grilled cheese. And I brought you some Sprite because my Momma always had me drink Sprite when I was sick." She nodded and went to set at the table where Y/N had placed our bowls.
"Mommy can Demi watch Cinderella with us after dinner?" Oh man! I love that movie! Y/N must've noticed. "Yeah babe, as long as she wants to." Before she even finished her sentence I got excited. "That's my favorite Disney movie. I'd love to watch it with you two." They both chuckled. After we ate and Gracen told me about her first day of school in two days Y/N told her it was time for a bath. So I kept myself busy in the kitchen. Washing the dishes and putting them away. Putting the leftover soup up in the refrigerator. Then I noticed a basket full of half folded clothes. So I went about folding those. Y/N had enough things on her plate to worry about. It was the least I could do help her. Especially since Gracie Bell was sick. It wasn't until the little girl came walking into the living room messy hair and ninja turtle pjs that I was brought out of my thoughts.
"Demi you didn't have to do that." Y/N sounded surprised. "I was just keeping busy, figured I'd be less for you to worry about." I smiled at her and received a slightly tired smile back. Gracen was now setting in my lap on the couch looking up at me. "D can you please brush my hair?" She asked with the sweetest puppy dog eyes.
"Of course I can Gracie Bell!" So we talked while I brushed her hair. About how she was a little nervous about school. About how her mommy is super woman. And about how she doesn't have a daddy anymore. He never comes back. He always leaves. So I gave her my own experiences. How my dad left. The PG version anyway. And about how I have a man I call my dad now. Then.. the most amazing thing happened. With Y/N setting beside us, me now finally braiding Gracens hair she looked up at me with the most serious face. "You won't ever leave, right? Cause I'll miss you more." I'm pretty sure I was in shock. And so was Y/N. I had tears welling up in my eyes and I looked to meet hers and so did she. I sent her a smile and did the only thing I could think of. I pushed Gracens bangs out of her face and held her cheek in my hand. "You know what Gracie Bell, I have to leave sometimes for my job." She smiled a little before replying. "Yeah cause everyone loves your songs." I chuckled. "But, I'll always come back, and if your mom is okay with it. My first stop will always be right here. To come see you." I felt arms go around my neck and she whispered a soft "I love you."
We had just put Gracen to bed and we were setting back in the living room. I knew it was coming I just didn't know when.
"Demi.. I'm really sorry about that. I never expected her to say that. I honestly never expected her to become this attached to you. Or you to her. I normally don't let people get close to my daughter. But with you.. I don't think we could help it." I nodded.
"I'm sorry if you think I crossed a line. I know why it feels like to have someone leave. I wouldn't ever want to make her feel that way. But I didn't lie. I do like spending time with you guys and getting to know you. It's really the happiest I've been in a while." I felt another set of arms go around my neck.
"You're pretty great ya know." I hugged her back and barely heard her when she asked. "But, you'll always come back, right?" I just squeezed her a little more before I told her my answer. "Always."
So I'm like super into this book guys. I hope you are too!! If there's any certain things you want to see please let me know. I'd love to try to incorporate that into the story! Thanks for reading y'all! 💙
