general POV

Ochako stared down at the letter that had fallen through the letterbox. U.A High school It read. And it was addressed to her. She glanced around her shabby bedroom, if you could even call it a bedroom. It was a small room the size of a walk-in closet, with a mattress shoved in a corner. The little belongings she had were shoved on two small shelves. Her clothes were hung on a rod that stretched across the room's short length. The gravity quirk user grabbed her phone off the ground and dialed her friend. After so long of waiting for him to pick up, she finally heard Izuku's voice on the other end of the line.

"Did you get in? He blurted. She looked down at the letter in her hands

"I dunno, but I got a letter." She commented, crawling over to the small table she shoved in the opposite corner.

"Well open it!" He exclaimed. "I already told Kurogiri and Shigaraki that I made it in, so they asked me to check in with you."

Check in? I mean it could be a rejection letter...

She tore open the letter, allowing a letter fall-out. Her eyes darted around the paper, reading every inch carefully. She gasped loudly and grabbed her phone off the ground.

"I'm in!" She yelled confidently. There was a loud clatter on the other end, followed by silence. "Deku?"

"Hi, I'm still here, I just knocked over a jar of pens." She nodded. As she opened her mouth to speak, she heard a faint voice come through the line.

"Izuku, dinners ready!" Ochako guessed the voice belonged to his mother.

"Oh I've got to go. Bye?"

"Bye!" Uraraka exclaimed. Izuku smiled after hearing her giggle on the other end of the line.

"Yeah." A click on the other end was followed by silence. He tossed his phone down onto the table and made his way to the kitchen, humming to himself.

"You seem happy today, Izuku. Something good happen?" The teen's head snapped up towards his mom.

"Wha- Oh I was on the phone with my friend! We both got into U.A." Inko smiled proudly.

"That's great sweetheart! Is this the one you've been training with?" She asked, tilting her head at him. He nodded.

"Yeah. She finally got her her letter today." Inko handed him some chopsticks as he set the table. Internally, he was growing exhausted pretending to act like he used to. But externally, his acting hadn't earned him a suspicious glance.

"Oh your friend is a girl?" He stared at her blankly for a moment.

"Is that a problem?" His tone was suddenly defensive, something Inko rarely heard from her son.

"No, of course not! I just think it's quite funny since you wouldn't ever go within three feet of a girl when you were younger." Midoriya let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh. I thought you were gonna make a big deal about it, sorry." Inko moved some chopsticks towards her.

"Of course not!" Midoriya sat across from his mother silently. Inko surveyed him as he ate. " Are okay sweetheart? You don't seem to be feeling well lately." He shifted in his seat, keeping his eyes focused on his rice.

"I'm doing fine, actually, I'm just tired." His mother nodded.

"Well, how about you go to sleep early tonight,I'll do the dishes by myself, okay?" He nodded, knowing his lie would eventually have consequences.

After dinner, when Inko sent him to sleep, he found himself staring at the empty space on his wall where his Allmight poster once hung, the blank spot now pristine. A tapping came from behind him.

Ochako sat on her mattress, clutching a steaming cup of ramen. She listened to the noise of the couple next door, fighting over whatever had pissed them off today.

"These walls really need to be thicker I swear..." She muttered. Struck with an idea, she pulled on a hoodie and left her dinner on her makeshift desk. Her pocket jingled as she stuffed her phone and house keys in them.

When her neighbors would catch her leaving late at night, she would excuse herself by saying she was going on a run. Which was true to some degree, since she was usually running to a park or just around town.

Although this time, she was running to visit a friend.

Her feet pounded on the wet concrete sidewalk underneath her as she sprinted towards the apartment complex ahead of her. She climbed the fire escape with ease; after all, she was always using them.

Uraraka counted the windows before reaching the right one. Peering through the window to see him, she noticed Izuku staring blankly at an empty space on the wall. The glass shook as she tapped it rapidly. He jumped up and opened the window, his messy hair falling in his face.

"Hey Deku!" The brunette exclaimed. Midoriya signaled for her to lower her voice.

"Uraraka?! What are you doing here?" She shrugged.

"I was tired of listening to my neighbors fight, it's the only thing they do." His brow furrowed.

"Okay...Couldn't you have called me rather than making a guest appearance?" Ochako sat criss-cross on the damp platform.

"I mean I guess," She whispered. "But that takes all the fun out of messing with you," He sighed.

"Very funny." At that moment, the door creaked open.

"Izuku, who are you talking to?" The boy's face contorted into a look of embarrassment and shock.

"Well uh...You now the friend I mentioned earlier?" Ochako stuck her head inside the room.

"Hello!" She said brightly, false cheeriness dripping from her voice. "Sorry to bother you so late at night, I just came to hang out." This is going to be harder to cover up than sneaking out....

Inko nodded. "That's fine sweetheart. Do your parents know you're here?" Uraraka pupils dilated in fear.

"Yup! I would never leave without asking," Izuku suppressed his laughter at the irony in her tone.

His mother smiled sweetly as she shut the door. They stared at each other for a moment before bursting into laughter.

"I can't believe she bought that," She giggled. Deku shook his head.

"Me neither."

Their childish laughter seemed to ring around the room, an echo of everlasting childhood.
