“Do you want to come in?”

Jessica about to steps in into Tiffany’s place when she suddenly realize something. She quickly throws her cigarette to the ground and steps on it, successfully put the lights off but it left a mess in corridor floor. Tiffany needs to suppress a laugh at seeing Jessica’s panic face when the blonde sees the mess she created.

“It’s okay. Come on, come in.”

Jessica glances at the cigarette for a last time before follows Tiffany to the latter apartment. Tiffany quickly enters the kitchen while Jessica tries to make herself at home at Tiffany’s living room.

“Do you want something to drink?” asks Tiffany from the kitchen.

“Water is fine.”

Tiffany nods at that and begins to prepare the drink. She takes a glance to the blonde girl, noticing how fidgety she is. Her fingers keep moving nervously and Tiffany already spent enough time with Jessica to know what that means. Already spent enough time to know what Jessica often does when she likes that. “You can smoke if you want.”

“You don’t like it if I smoke in your place.”

Tiffany smiles at that. This is the first time she sees Jessica like this, nervous and shy. Tiffany doesn’t mind, she actually finds it cute even though it makes the situation a bit awkward. Who knows this sarcastic bartender can be this cute?

“Here.”  Tiffany puts a glass of water in the living room table and moves to sit beside Jessica in the couch. Close enough to makes their knees touch. Tiffany wants to touch her but she knows it wills makes the blonde feels even more awkward, so she’s not.

“So…” Tiffany begins, “Do you want to give this a chance? Give us a chance?”

Jessica turns her head to Tiffany at that. The blank expression once again finds its way to Jessica’s face and her eyes looks like their piercing Tiffany’s soul again. Jessica doesn’t say anything for a long time and for the first time since the blonde came to her apartment tonight, Tiffany feels nervous. Maybe she jumps into conclusion too fast. Just because Jessica is here doesn’t mean she will accept her feeling. Maybe she’s here to say that she can’t after all. To say she doesn’t return her feeli-

“I admit I’m still scared.” Jessica’s voice breaks Tiffany’s thought, “I’m still scared to love somebody.” Jessica takes a deep breath before continuing, “But being afraid won’t get me anywhere so I want to try. I want to try with you. But it just-“

Jessica stops talking and closes her eyes. Seeing that, Tiffany puts her hand at Jessica’s knees, squeezing it gently. She knows how hard it must be for this blonde girl so Tiffany doesn’t say anything. She just waits patiently. Slowly, Jessica lifts her arm with her palm up. Tiffany looks at that palm.

You’re holding my heart in your hand.

“Please don’t throw my heart away.” Jessica’s voice comes out soft, really soft. “Please keep it.”
