When the adults got home, we moved to the basement as to not wake Scarlet once she went down for a nap. How time flies when you're with your friends. I didn't even glace at the clock once before midnight when Lila went upstairs for bed. Alice and Erick refused to sleep, but Marcus had already curled up in his sleeping bag. He was out for the night.
The next morning (about 11 am) when everyone was finally asleep and after Honour and I had just woken up, I found Honour watching her phone intently. Which kind of worried me. I sat next to her and looked at her phone. She was looking at local newspaper articles. The one she was looking at was about a girl who went missing about four years ago.
"Have you heard about this?" Honour asked. She held the phone out to me. "It says that these people have been looking for this girl for four years, but they stopped after a year. It says that they found evidence that she might still be alive."
"Really?" I took the phone out of her hands and started reading. "Does it say what the evidence was?" Honour shook her head.
"Look at the picture. They used an age generator to see what she would look like now. She kind of looks familiar, huh? Like a movie star or something, but I can't think of who."
I looked at the picture, but only one face came to mind. A slightly blurred and slightly cartoonish picture of Lila sat in front of me on my friend's phone. Except it said Emily Carson would be about 16 now. She was last seen in her back yard at 2122 maple street. If you have information, please call this number with a Minosota phone number under the picture. I calmly handed the phone back to Honour.
"Could you send me that link?" I asked.
"Sure. Do you think they'll find her?" Honour questioned, not looking up from her phone. My phone buzzed in my back pocket a few seconds later. I hadn't changed out of my clothes from the day before. I shrugged as I pulled my phone out.
"I doubt it if it's been four years, but anything can happen." Pulling up the link, I looked at the picture again then announced, "I'm going upstairs for a bit. I'll be right back." Honour barely agnologed me with a small nod and I crept up the stairs to find Lila.
Lila sat on the counter, mug in hand, waiting for the coffee to be done brewing. The machine beeped when I walked it, indicating that it was done. Lila hopped off the counter at once and poured the coffee into her black mug. Steam floated towards me as I walked up beside her.
Lila smiled over at me sweetly, cupping the mug with both hands close to her chest. Sipping her coffee, (I never understood why she liked it black) she turned so her butt was against the counter, her hands still cupped and against her. I bit my lip slightly, deciding what I wanted to say or how I wanted to say it.
Lila rubbed between my eyebrows. She tilted her head slightly. "If I asked you to stay in your room until my friends leave, would you do it or would you be mad?" She didn't give me an answer so I added, "I'll explain once they leave. I promise."
Lila just shrugged and headed back to her room. I thanked her quietly and headed back downstairs to a wide awake Honour, half asleep Alice and Erick and mostly awake Marcus.
