Kenma walked his fastest when he passed by the halls. He didn't want to catch attention. But being just a part of the volleyball team gave him stares from the students.Kuroo. Where is he?
His boyfriend didn't come pick him up that day and he never received a single text from him either.
These past few days, Kenma had noticed some changes in their relationship but he shrugged it off. Kuroo was just busy with his requirements. After all, he was a third year.
Kenma had finally arrived to his classroom. He quickly occupied his seat at the most back part of the classroom, near the window. He got this idea from one of the series he watched. It was pretty common for an introvert to sit there.
He scanned through his notes, studying for an upcoming quiz in Chemistry. Kuroo taught him during the weekends but he needed to review a bit. He easily forgot things.
After a while, their teacher came inside with a stack of papers on her arms.
Kenma sighed.
--
"Kenma, wanna hang out with us? We're going to the ice cream shop near our school," Yamamoto asked. He was Kenma's classmate and also, teammate.
Kenma flinched. "No, thanks. I'm... busy," he sad, as he hid his PSP under his desk.
"Ey, we know it. You're going to play one of those video games."
Yamamoto laughed and he gave Kenma a pat on the shoulder.
"Let's go, Fukunaga!"
And Kenma was left alone in their classroom. Everyone was out there eating lunch and he just sat there eyeing the passing students outside through the window.
He wasn't in the mood to play, it was just an excuse.
Kenma noticed and judged every person who walked by the gate when he saw a familiar rooster head.
Kuroo.
His boyfriend was carrying a pile of books, laughing with whoever he was walking with. Everything was a blur to Kenma.
That's what he got from all those video games.
But he knew it was a girl.
Oh.
There he is.
Kenma quickly stood up. He would ask Kuroo if he ate his lunch because he was really hungry but he didn't want to eat his lunch with just anyone.
He decided to wait by the main building where Kuroo would pass by.
The ravenette and his companion stopped by the lockers. Kenma was just probably a meter away from them. He didn't know how to greet him.
Kuroo was popular.
He would probably get stares if he called him.
He mentally argued with himself for a moment.
Calm down, everyone knows you're super close.
"Kuroo."
No response.
Kuroo didn't hear him because he was talking and laughing with his companion. His back was also facing Kenma.
"Kuroo." Kenma made his voice louder.
"Tetsurou, I think someone's calling for you."
Kuroo stopped laughing and turned to Kenma.
"Oh, Kenma!"
"Hey..." Kenma awkwardly smiled.
"I've been looking for you," Kuroo said as he quickly put all the books inside the locker. It wasn't his locker.
"Yeah, me too."
Kenma was anxious because someone was there to listen to them. He was worried how to act as "bestfriends".
"Oh and by the way, Alisa and I are partners for a research in Chemistry class. You know Lev's older sister, right?"
"Yes, I heard about her..."
"Alisa, come here. Let me introduce you to my bestfriend," Kuroo called for the person waiting in front of the lockers.
The 'Alisa' strutted towards them with an angelic smile in her face.
She was beautiful and tall and skinny.
"Oh, you must be Kozume-kun! Kuroo talks about you a lot." Alisa giggled. "I am Alisa Haiba, Lev's older sister and Tetsurou's classmate. You may know me or you may not since I'm just an exchange student here. It's so nice to meet you!"
The girl extended her slender arms to Kenma for a handshake.
Kenma accepted it. "I'm Kozume Kenma... nice meeting you too."
"Great! So where do we eat lunch?" Kuroo asked.
Kenma knew this was a bad idea. He didn't want to eat with a stranger.
--
The ramen shop near their school was the place Alisa chose. She said the taste was superb so Kuroo agreed with a comment that he often came to the place. While Kenma just nodded since he didn't want to talk and he wasn't that interested with food.
They were in a middle of eating when Alisa threw a question to Kuroo.
"Have you finished our assignment in Geometry?"
And they completely had a conversation without Kenma.
Kuroo really knows how to handle girls.
He decided to finish his food quickly and start with his game since he couldn't relate with their topic.
When he fished his PSP from his hoodie's pocket, Kuroo coughed.
"You're playing again?"
Kenma avoided his gaze. "Uh.. I'm just going to check the time."
Kuroo nodded then continued his conversation with Alisa.
Kuroo seems a bit different.
Kenma fished his phone instead of his PSP.
He had one new message from an unknown number.
Hi, Kozume. It's Akaashi. Sorry, I got your number from Bokuto-san. Do you wanna hang out this afternoon? Same place. It's okay if you won't though.
Kenma sighed.
Bokuto-san. A real pain in the ass.
Kenma didn't want to appear being rude so he replied with an 'okay' to Akaashi and saved his number.
He should tell Kuroo. Although he knew he would surely go home late this afternoon.
"Kuroo..."
"Hmm?" Kuroo tilted his head to face Kenma and so was Alisa.
Kenma got uncomfortable.
"I- uh, I'm going out with a friend later."
The ravenette chuckled. "Okay, I'm going to be busy anyway."
"Yeah..."
