"My mom had me when she was 16. She dropped out of high school to take care of me and put me in a good school and everything. I knew Dixie from kindergarten and we stayed friends for a long time," I said and paused. "6 years ago... My mom got into a car accident on her way home. I was at the D'amelio's house and we got a call that she was in the hospital. She didn't make it. So I lived with the D'amelio's for a year before Child Services came over and told them I'd have to go to an orphanage. I was sad and didn't want to leave them. So they were nice enough to adopt me. So my mom didn't leave me at birth. She died in a car accident and actually loved me a lot." He was quiet and I looked to see he had tears in his eyes. "Stop with the pity act," I rolled my eyes and looked at the horizon and the city below.
"I'm so sorry. I never should have said any of that," Calvin said and I shrugged.
"Whatever."
"Can we stop on the prank war? I agree that I took it too far."
"Not a chance. I get my revenge, then we're done." He sighed and I walked inside. Charli came over and took a sip of my drink.
"What was Calvin saying?" She asked.
"He just said sorry. And I told him my story and background," I shrugged.
"You seem carefree today."
"I'm just chill. I'm thinking about just stuff." She hugged me and walked away. I decided to hang out in the living room and the others didn't know what to say to me. I was texting Haden and Calvin jumped over the couch.
"Hi," he said.
"Hi," I said. "Can I help you?"
"Wanna hang out?"
"And do what?"
"Do you drink?"
"Occasionally."
"Smoke?"
"No." I set my phone aside and he nodded.
"Okay. I can work with that," he stood and held his hand out. "Let's restart. Hi, I'm Calvin Goldby and I'm a 21 year old virgin."
"Hi, Calvin. I'm Kaylianne Ford and I'm 18," I smiled and shook his hand.
"So not a virgin?"
"No."
"Oh, come on!" He sighed and sat down.
"What is your normal day like?"
"Boring. I usually hang out with Patty, but he's with his girlfriend now, so I'm bored."
"And why did you think I was a good person to talk to?"
"I don't know. You look like you're hiding something and I'm gonna find out what it is." We were quiet and I smiled.
"Just saying, you're good at flirting. There's no reason you wouldn't get a girl. Just don't ask them for nudes that early," I said.
"I'll take that as a compliment," he smiled. "And advice. Wanna play pool?"
"Sure," I said and we went to the table. I won and then he beat me at ping-pong. "The way you play ping-pong scares me," I said and he laughed. "Oh, hang on. Boyfriend's calling," I said.
"Right," he walked away.
"Hey, Haden," I said.
"Hey. What are you up to?" Haden asked.
"I'm at the Hype House with Charli and Dixie. Why?"
"I don't know. Tell me if Calvin tries to do anything."
"I will."
"Okay, bye."
"Bye." I hung up and Calvin came back with White Claws. He offered me a Black Cherry and I took it.
"Won't Heidi and Marc care?" He asked.
"They're more chill when it comes to me. I'm not completely their child, bro," I said. We finished them and I won another game of pool.
"Hey, Kayli, I'm heading home with Noah. He's gonna stay for the night. Can you drive Charli back?" Dixie asked.
"Yeah, sure," I said. "Use protection," I said as she walked away and Calvin laughed.
"Shut up," Dixie said and went home with Noah.
"Who are you to laugh, Calvin? You're the virgin here," I said and he stopped.
"You don't need to bring that up all the time," he said. I shrugged and we stopped.
"Do you wanna go to target?" I asked.
"Sure," Calvin put everything away and we went to my car. We went to Target and got snacks before heading back at night. I got home later and Heidi was live.
"Hey, honey," she smiled. "Haden's upstairs in your room."
"Okay. Thanks, mom," I said and headed up. "Hi," I smiled at Haden.
"Hi," he kissed me and plopped onto the bed. I laid down next to him and yawned. "Let's watch a movie before you sleep," he said. We watched Wreck It Ralph and I fell asleep.
In the morning, I shook Haden awake and we went to the Hype House. We were sitting on the long chair and I was curled up on his side.
"Why'd she have to bring her attractive boyfriend?" Ryland asked. "Never mind. I'd date him too." Haden laughed and I smiled. He gave me a kiss and Ryland walked away. Calvin watched us and Haden sighed.
"I'm bout to rock his shit," Haden muttered.
"We're on good terms now. He said sorry," I said.
"Didn't say sorry to me," Haden said and Calvin came over.
"I heard that," he said and I hoped this wouldn't go badly. "Sorry for trying to destroy your relationship because your girlfriend played a prank on me."
"Accepted. Bye," Haden told him and motioned for him to walk away. I looked away so Calvin wouldn't look at me. He left and I made a TikTok with Haden. "I'll be back," Haden said and walked inside. He gat back and smiled as he sat next to me.
I got home and checked my DM's and saw one from Calvin.C: I need to talk to you tomorrow.
I took Haden over the next day and went up to the roof as he stayed down.
"I think Haden's cheating on you," Calvin came over and whispered in my ear. "Please believe me. I'm not trying to spark a fight between you two, but I'm trying to help you out. Just... Let me flirt with you and let's see what he does. Everyone's on board with it."
