"Sam? Can I talk to you?"

Sam sighed, fully aware that once the weekend was over, he wouldn't be able to ignore Emily anymore. He had spent his whole Saturday and Sunday in his bedroom at the Hummel-Hudson household, locked inside as he ignored both Finn and Emily's calls and texts. Carole had told him Emily had gone as far as going to their house, but he hadn't come down. He couldn't. Not yet.

And as Emily stood beside him in her usual Cheerios uniform but looking like she hadn't slept in days and about to burst into tears — which was pretty much how he was feeling as well —, Sam wasn't entirely sure he was ready to talk to her yet.

"Emily, not now." He told her, still looking inside his locker to avoid looking at her. "Just, please, okay?"

"I just... I just wanted to say that I'm sorry." She told him, her voice sounding weak and low. "I never meant for any of this to happen, I..."

"Emily." He interrupted her, knowing that if he listened to her now, he'd cave in. "Not now."

"Oh, okay." She sighed sadly. "I, hum... I... Sorry."

And turning around to leave, Emily felt the tears rushing down her face as she ran down the hallway, trying to get to the nearest bathroom so she could cry in peace. And Sam could tell it too, so as he stared at her as she ran away from him, he sighed, longing to run after her to offer her some comfort, but still unable to brush away the image of his girl kissing Finn and hiding it from him for days.

Emily wasn't sure she would be able to make it through the whole glee meeting that afternoon. She was sitting alone, on the last row with Sam sitting on the opposite side of the room in the first row, clearly trying to stay as far away from Emily as possible. She tried hard not to cry just then, missing his presence beside her and hurting every time she looked at him just to notice him actively trying to look away. She contemplated leaving the room altogether, but before she could, Marley came up to her, getting up from her seat to take another, just beside Emily as the girl turned to her with a small smile.

Marley grabbed Emily's hand in hers and allowed the older girl to lean her head against her shoulder, brushing off her thanks when she mumbled it to her. Because, even though she didn't know, Marley was going through the same thing and she was terrified that her and Jake would end up like Emily and Sam after her boyfriend found out about Ryder kissing her and she could use the comfort from her just as much as Emily, to be fair.

The two girls stayed in silence together at the back of the classroom, watching as Mr. Schue walked inside and wrote down movies on the white board.

"Everybody loves movies." The teacher said. "They don't just tell stories... They transport us to other worlds. They are inspirational. They provide comfort, and they help us escape from our day-to-day anxieties."

"Like getting left at the altar?" Kitty asked, as everyone flinched at the insensitive comment.

"Too soon." Ryder shook his head, but Mr. Schue apparently just brushed past it.

"Exactly." He said. "Or in your guys' case, studying for exams or worrying about regionals or..."

"Or kissing someone who isn't your boyfriend." Kitty added, causing Marley and Unique to turn to her with deadly glares as Emily slouched in her seat.

"In any case, for this week's assignment, I want you to pick your favorite songs from your favorite movies." Mr. Schue continued as all the kids around Emily cheered and clapped for the idea.

"Unique knows all there is to know about The Crying Game." Unique said, as Kitty then turned to Marley.

"You don't get dibs on Les Mis just because you are the poster." She said, before leaning forward a bit so she could look at Emily instead. "And don't you even think about singing anything from Unfaithful."
