The girls all decide to walk to the infirmary to check out what was really going on.
Meanwhile, Faye was still in shock as her friend is laid into a stretcher and an oxygen mask is placed over her nose. She was quickly rushed into the ward inside the nurses office with her mother in toe.
Faye face palms as she slips into a seat in the seating area. A guard stood at the door.
Maybe she was asthmatic and nobody knew about it. Faye tries to assure herself.
Inside the office, Ms Baeta was practically hyperventilating as the nurse gave Veronica a series of shots ranging from amitriptyline to alprazolam. Suddenly the transparent oxygen mask begins to fill up with mist whiles the nurse set up her IV tube. She was also severely dehydrated so they needed to rehydrate her with some glucose since her blood sugar was also extremely low. The nurse takes off the oxygen mask.
" She can breathe on her own now." The nurse assures her mom.
" Why did this happen, I thought you had information on all your students."
" I do Ms Baeta but these kids are very slippery. They never come for their medications and it's so hard to get them here." The nurse explains as she rummages through her record drawer for Veronica's file.
She had a case of severe depression and anxiety just as the nurse had guessed. She had fallen so deep without her own notice and she had involuntarily stopped herself from breathing.
But how hadn't she noticed she was relapsing? The nurse wonders.
" I think we need to run some blood tests on her. She's going to wake up in five minutes. Take her to the school's counselor afterwards." The nurse says as she picks up a syringe to draw some blood samples, " She's fine. It was just a relapse."
The nurse steps out with her mom to talk on the empty patio afterwards.
Faye wanted to ask what was going on but thought not to. Her dorm mates arrived just then.
" What happened?" Heather asks as they sit in the seats opposite hers.
" They're not letting me in on anything. She's just on oxygen at the moment." Faye informs them.
Then the door to the nurses office creaks open and there she was, looking pale and distraught as she mooches towards them. She still had a bandaid on her arm indicating that she had just tore the IV tubes connecting to it out of her arm.
Faye quickly rushed to her side and held her.
" I'm thirsty." She croaks and Ciarra bolts out of her seat to the despenser and got her a cup of warm water.
Veronica downs it in one long swig and hands her the cup, " I'm sorry guys, I didn't want anyone to know."
" Know what?" Faye whispers.
" Know that I am not normal. Just a pathetic sick girl in your midst." She says in an undertone as she takes a seat next to Heather.
" But that doesn't change how we feel about you." Ashanti informs her.
" Of course it doesn't but it will change how you behave around me. I know this because it was the same thing that happened back in junior high. People couldn't act normal around me because they thought I would spontaneously snap.
