The entire class period felt like a blur, a blur of confusion and separation. Of course I had to introduce myself, but everyone was too focused on something else during that time. Obviously, I didn't mind, but it would've been nice for at least one person to hear my name. I shrugged off the feelings of loneliness, and realized it was only my first day, I had a whole high school career ahead of me. I'm sure I'd be fine. The second the bell rang, Mr. Crood, my teacher, excused us from home room. The class flooded out the doors. 'Are these students always in such a rush?' I sighed and waited in class for the students to finish piling out. Taking a deep breath after everyone else left, I walked out to be greeted by Mekaila and what seemed to be someone behind him on a DS it seemed. He sported a green sweater that was more than a little worn. His hair was a light brown, and it looked soft to the touch. White headphones were hanging around his neck and he didn't seem to pay much attention to me or Mekaila.
"Hey y/n." Mekaila said, walking towards the door from which I came out of. The boy behind him stood where they were, leaning against the wall. I tilted my head and gave a slight smile.
"Didn't think you'd be here so early, class just got out." I say, feeling a bit flustered he still cared this much about me.
"Well, it's brunch now so we got out a bit early." He paused. "Oh yeah! Y/n, this is Leilee. We share the same class and he's in my group." Mekaila gestured for him to come forward, and he stuck his head up quickly and sluggishly walked towards us.
"Hey." Was all he could say. Of course this would be awkward, but I stuck my hand out to shake his anyways. He stood and stared at me, taking one hand out of his pocket to shake mine.
"So..! What game were you playing?" I ask him, trying to start up a conversation.
"Not sure you'd know the name.." He gave a cocky smile as to show off his knowledge of the subject.
"Try me." I responded back, giving the same sly grin.
"Final Fantasy 7." Leilee, spoke. Giving me his console so I could observe the game.
"I guess you're right. I'm not very up to date with the new games after all." I slightly laugh, handing him the small device again. He sighed in disappointment and a bit of regret for even asking.
"I guess I'll have to teach you someday." He replied, walking away while playing his game still.
"He seemed...interesting." I try to sound as optimistic as possible while also containing my excitement from that last statement. 'A new mutual and it's only my first day. Score.'
"He can be a handful, but I promise once you get to know him, he can be, uhm, fun!" Mekaila spoke, rubbing his hand behind his neck. "Here, follow me to our table where we sit, I'll introduce you to the others I was talking about!" He said, way too excited to be showing me off.
"Alright, let's go then." I responded, staggering behind him as we enter the large cafeteria. My eyes wander in all directions. Starting with the huge assortment of food, and lastly to the table where Mekaila was calling me over to.
