22. Ghost Of You

In winter, the stars seem to have rekindled their fires, the moon achieves a fuller triumph, and the heavens wear a look of a more exalted simplicity.

Dahyun was walking down the hallway. The sun is ready to set and hues of bright orange is already all over the place. She hung her head down low wearing a frown.

She feels fragile, but she knows to herself that she needs to face everything. She knows she needs to face the truth that her lover might be in a different time loop as hers.

•Flashback

"Professor Im! Can we have a talk?" She said. She wants to voice out her concerns. This is all his fault after all, Dahyun thought.

"Of course. What is it, Miss Kim?" The old man replied fixing his glasses and the books he's holding.

"About yesterday. You know; our topic......" She said. Sudden waves of embarrassment are gushing through her body.

"Do you find the lesson hard, Miss Kim?" The professor replied furrowing his eyebrows. He is not quite sure why the girl is asking him about this. He doesn't remember the topic hard to understand.

"Uhhm--- it's just that.... I kind of dreamt last night." She said.

The man looked at her with an unreadable expression.

"My dream, it felt so real. In my dream, I met a man. Had a family with him and married him. But we only had the chance to be together for less than 24 hours..... Just like our lesson yesterday." She narrated. She can feel her heart breaking once again.

"I know it sounds crazy. But I'm really desperate right now. I want to meet him again." Dahyun said.

The professor sighed and looked at her sadly. "Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your request. Science is really broad. You must've experienced what we called 'Jamais Vu'. It is when our brain creates illusion, so real that it can conceive you that you're familiar to something that has never really happened. Or maybe you were sucked into a time loop while you were sleeping. The possibilities are endless. But that doesn't really guarantee that you two will meet again in the future." He said.

Dahyun can only look into nothingness as she felt her heart breaking even more. That little hope in her was shattered too after hearing the explanation of her chemistry professor.

Dahyun continue walking and was startled when someone gripped onto her shoulder.

"Heya!" Tzuyu greeted.

"You seem down, what happened?" Tzuyu asked.

"Am I supposed to tell you?" Dahyun asked half kidding and half meant.

"Of course! Dumbass." The taller said flicking the head of her unnie.

The two continue walking until they reach the garden of their school.

They sat under the tree and Dahyun began talking.

"I had a dream last night. It felt so real. I met a man, his name was Jimin." She stated.

Dahyun can see Tzuyu furrowing her eyebrows on her peripheral vision.

"And?" The younger asked.

"And we lived happily. But we parted ways after what felt like 24 hours. It was so unfair!" Dahyun replied.

"Huh?" Tzuyu asked bewildered of the older's story.

"It felt like I lived my entire lifetime in 24 hours. I remember my dream started with me as a baby that ages every 18 minutes! I remember myself having a family, marrying and growing old. All that in a day!" Dahyun said fastly trying to explain everything to the younger.

On the other hand, Tzuyu had her mouth open. She thinks that her friend was just pranking her. But she's also knows Dahyun well. She knows Dahyun won't last a day emoting just for a prank. She has never seen her frantic before too.

But she's also troubled whether she would believe Dahyun or not. Everything that came out of her mouth was unbelievable.

In the end, the younger tried understanding. She can see pain in her unnie's eyes. She feels bad that she don't know what to do.

"We should go home. It's getting dark" Dahyun said.

Soon, the two parted ways and Dahyun were all alone again.

Everything's still the same.

The snowy pavement, the festive decorations, the kids building snowmans. It's all the same.

She chuckled. Of course they wouldn't change. It's not like I have been away for ages. It was just yesterday when I last saw these. She thought to herself.

She saw her favorite bakeshop again but she just walked past it. She doesn't have any energy to face people.

She continue walking until someone tapped her shoulder.

At first, she thought someone just hit her accidentally. But the tapping continue so she looked around and saw a familiar face.

Too familiar....

"Eunwoo?" She asked.

The lad just smiled and walked alongside with her.

"You were in my dreams last night!" Eunwoo said which made Dahyun shocked to the core.
