A hand gripped his own as Sirius finally came to. He could hear a sigh of relief and the hand release. Sirius opened his eyes and smiled.
James was sat on a chair in the corner of the room, Remus on the bed. Sirius glanced quickly at his hand to see Remus' close to it and smiled again.
He was holding my hand, he thought childishly.
"See, I told you he'd be fine," James said, pointedly looking at Remus. Remus blushed and muttered, "Shut up Prongs."
Sirius laughed. "Were you worried, Moony?" he teased.
"I had good right to be! Did you see how far you fell? If James hadn't caught you..." he trailed off and looked at Sirius, concern obvious on his face.
Sirius grabbed Remus' hand and squeezed it. "Hey, I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" James asked.
"Yes. Plus, I can get away with not doing the homework now."
Remus rolled his eyes and chuckled, "Yep... definitely fine."
James came and stood by Sirius' bed. "One question though. Why didn't you fly away from the bludger? I mean, surely you saw it coming."
"Errr...I got distracted and didn't see it until it was too late." Sirius avoided Remus' gaze, knowing that he was staring at Sirius questioningly. He couldn't exactly say that Remus was the distraction right in front of him.
"Oh. Well, you should start being more focused, mate."
"Yeah, thanks. I'll remember to focus the next time a Bludger comes full speed at me." Sirius sighed and let go of Remus' hand.
Remus stood up. "We should probably get going. Need to get to transfiguration on time today," he glared at James. "We'll come and see you after dinner, yeah?"
"Yeah." Then Remus leant over, kissed Sirius on the cheek and walked out after James.
The minute they had left Sirius stifled a squeal. Yes. A squeal. Merlin, Moony what are you doing to me?
Remus had only ever kissed him on the forehead, and after the staged kiss in Hogsmeade even they had stopped. But he kissed you then... maybe that means- No don't. Stop being stupid Sirius!
There was no way anyone as amazing as Remus would like him back. Sirius had felt awkward during this whole fake relationship after he realised he had a crush on him.
He had to keep reminding himself that Remus was just being a good friend and helping him out. It wasn't because he liked him at all. Soon they'd 'break up' and go back to just friends.
Sirius let himself linger over these thoughts, using what little time he had left alone to decipher what had been real to him, and what hadn't.
And he knew that everything had been real. Every touch, every kiss, every look of admiration. Yet Remus would never know.
Because the moment he left this hospital room, it was back to pretending.
