she's a liar.

THERE WERE LOUD banging on the door. They could hear her raising voice from outside of the room, her vicious threads, her cursing words, demanding for an entrance. The handle twisted and the door shook but didn't open in the slightest. Somewhere at the corner of the room, a little girl with bright emerald eyes heave a sigh of relief. She knew the locking door wouldn't be able to protect them forever but at that moment, she didn't wish to think too much of the future and simply rest. Rest from the hard beatings, rest from the bloody cuts, rest from the weeping tears, rest from both her and her brother's screams. A rest from the reality that gave nightmares even till now.
A whimper from behind her cut her out of her thoughts. She turned to see another kid who was at her age, bloody and bruised, curling into a ball beside the white bed as if it could possibly made him invisible from the eyes of others. She winced at her brother, the mere sight of his state then was pitiful. He was pitiful and so was she.
Walking slowly towards the sobbing boy, she tried her best to not hiss at the stinging pain from the fresh wounds at both of her feets. The girl kneeled down on her knees in front of her dearest sibling, cuffing his cheeks and bringing his face to meet her own gaze. The two similar green emeralds clashing at each other's. Their eyes hadn't yet dulled. There was still hope. They still hoped.“It's okay, you're okay. It's just me. I'm with you in the dark.”
“Sister...” he cracked, his voice was raspy and hoarse as it came out quiet, could be mistaken as a whisper. The girl hummed, her cold features softened at her brother's calls. And the boy cried again, throwing himself into her arms. He sobbed his sorrow and yelled in fury on his sister's chest, holding onto her closely, soaking the clothing with the tears that streamed down his face.
“I don't want to go back.. I don't want to... Please.. I don't want to go back... Please, please...”
Her chest tightened at her brother's pleas. He was scared. They were scared. She didn't have even the tiniest bit of desire to go back with her sibling to the woman screaming behind the wooden door but what other choices do they have? They were kids. Nothing more but simple, defenceless, bruised kids.
But did she really had the heart to ruin her brother like so? To tell the pathetic truth? And so, she lied.
“We're not going back. As soon as Dad awakes, we'll get out of here and build a new life together. Just Dad, you and I.” The girl told in a hush tone, holding her brother's back and stroking his hair with full care. The lies slipped out from her mouth, the words rolled out of her tongue with such ease. What's more disgusting of her was she didn't regret it.
Lies.
Raising his head from the girl's embrace, his eyes shined a bit more, his orbs looking into his sister's. “Really?” The boy asked, the question held doubt but also the little bit of wish, a little bit of hope.
Lies.
Grinning at her copy, she said again with full confidence blooming in her vocal cords. “Of course! We'll be able to live and be alive again!”
Lies.
The boy blinked. With a wide grin such as his sister's, he rubbed his puffy, red eyes and nodded his head. “You're right! I can't wait for Dad to wake up. We'll be able to live again!” He cheered, returning back into his sister's open arms, taking in the warmth of her hold and presence.
It was stupid of her. To give false hope. Not only to her brother but to herself as well. The girl knew their father wouldn't wake up from his coma. The woman wouldn't let it happen. But to save her brother, she lied. To save herself, she hoped.
They were kids.
She was lying.‘I'm a liar.’
