The next morning, you got up early to make breakfast for Javier as a way to thank him for letting you stay the night. The options in Javier's fridge were very limited, but you found enough to make him a simple breakfast.

"Good morning," said Javier as he sat down at the kitchen table.

"I made you breakfast. You know, just as a little thank you for letting me stay here for the night. That was really nice of you." you told Javier truthfully.

"Don't worry about it," he told you as started eating the breakfast.  "I don't understand why they haven't given you an apartment yet. You should talk to Jolene, the secretary. She'll probably be able to get you an apartment in this building."

"Yeah, I should do that. It would be great to stay in this building. I mean, it's not the nicest, but it's close to work" you paused. "I guess I'll head in a little earlier to work out the details then."

You went to grab your jacket and your luggage. You noticed Javier looking at you weirdly while doing so, but you decided to just ignore it.

"You want me to drive you?"

"Oh no, that's fine. You come in like you always do. I'll just take a cab to work." you told him, but thanking him for his offer.

"Then at least leave your luggage here. If you do get an apartment here in this building, you can just pick up your luggage later." Javier suggested to which you agreed.

You said goodbye telling him that you'd see him at work and then left the apartment.

"Wow," you thought. Javier really is such a nice guy. You didn't know a single guy that would just offer you to stay the night at his place just to be nice. Maybe he was just doing that because he felt obligated to because you were Steve's sister. But still, it was really nice of him.

You left his apartment still deep in thought when you accidentally bumped into somebody. "Sorry," you quickly apologized without looking at who it was that you bumped into.

"It's fine...(Y/N)?" the person said. It was Steve.

You sighed. It was too early for you to get yelled at again by Steve.

"Oh yeah. Sorry, Steve. I didn't see you and I just wasn't paying attention," you told him honestly. You didn't know why you were so nervous around him. He was your brother. Maybe it was just that you were still shaken up because of how he yelled at you yesterday.

"No, no. Don't worry about it," he paused. "Now that you're here, I was actually meaning to talk to you. I was going to do it at work, but I guess here is as good as anywhere." You nodded, signalling Steve to go on. "First of all, I would like to apologize to you. Not just for yelling at you yesterday, but also for not making you feel welcome. That was really shitty of me and I wanted you to know that I'm sorry."

"It's fine, Steve. I can understand that my just showing up here wasn't the best surprise. So, don't worry about it." You exhaled a breath of relief. His apology really seemed heartfelt and this felt like the first moment in years that you two had talked like actual adults with one another.

"Still, I felt really bad afterwards and I realized that what I said wasn't fair. The second thing that I want to talk to you about, well actually it's something I need to ask you.". You nodded, wondering what it could possibly be that he wanted to ask you. "Would you maybe like to go to dinner with me? I was thinking maybe on Friday? You could meet my wife and maybe we could talk a bit and catch up?" Steve asked you nervously shifting in his place. Did he really think that you were going to say no?

"Of course. I'd love to actually. And it'd be so nice to finally meet your wife." you told him excitedly. "Just let me know when and where and I'll be there."

"Great, it's settled then," he said and smiled at you. He was happy that you had said yes. He knew that he screwed up a lot in the past, but he really wanted to fix your strained relationship and the dinner was the best way to start.

"Are you already going to the embassy?" Steve asked you. You nodded. "You want a ride?" "Sure," you answered and smiled.

You and Steve walked to his car and you got in. Things already seemed to get better. You felt like you and Steve hadn't said that much to each other since you were children.

Steve started driving to the embassy. The ride was mostly silent except for a few small conversations here and there, and the drive was rather slow anyway. Luckily, the silence wasn't an awkward one, but more of a nice and comfortable one.

"Wait. When you bumped into me in the hallway, did you just come out of Javi's apartment?", Steve asked you when you arrived at the embassy. "I did. I spent the night there," you told him.

"What the fuck? I can't believe he would sleep with you. You're my sister." Steve yelled. "Steve, calm down. He didn't sleep with me. He just offered me to stay in his guest room for the night because nobody had told me yet where I could stay." you explained to Steve. You immediately saw his expression show relief.

You and Steve entered the embassy and went to your shared office. You sat down at your desk and tried to rearrange some of the mess that you left on your desk yesterday. You were definitely going to have to make some changes to your desk and office to make this seem a bit more like yours. Having someone clean it would be a nice start.

Later, you went to the secretary as Javier told you to get yourself an apartment. Turns out, you really were going to live in the same building as Steve and him. You had mixed feelings about this. It was nice to live this close to work and certainly, you liked that it was close to Steve, and Javier too. But what if Steve decided to change his mind and go back to hating or ignoring you? Wouldn't that be a bit awkward? You decided to focus on the good things for now. You were finally starting to work things out with your brother and you couldn't be happier about that. And Javier seemed nice enough too. And honestly, he wasn't bad to look at either

You were excited to work here with your two new partners to catch drug dealers and destroy the cartels. You knew your job wasn't going to be easy, especially as a woman, but you were excited nonetheless.
