The rest of the day was spent with Javier and Steve catching you up on what they've got on Escobar so far.

You stood in front of the board where you collected who was involved in the cartel and which information you currently have on him. In all honesty, you were astonished to see how many people were actually involved in his cartel, his "empire".

"Takes your breath away, doesn't it?" Javier asked you. He had probably noticed the way you were staring at the board.

"It does. Thinking of all the things Escobar has done, all the politicians and officers he has bribed, and all the deaths he's responsible for, it just makes me want to catch this bastard even more.", you told him and he laughed. "Join the club. I've been working his case for quite a while now and I'm telling you, one day we'll catch him. And I don't care whether we're going to catch him dead or alive". You nodded. Even though you just started working on this case, you could understand exactly why he was so determined to catch him. Of course, you were familiar with his case before you joined the DEA here in Medellín, but it was still different being in Medellín and witnessing the damage he is doing from up close.

"So, I was wondering if you'd like to have lunch tomorrow with me or to have a drink so that we can get to know each other a bit more. I find it a lot easier knowing the people that I work with, and, you know, you can tell me all about your weird relationship to your brother. What do you think?" he asked you. That did sound like a nice idea. It would be really nice to get to know Javier, and you haven't been anywhere in this city yet, except for his apartment and the embassy.

"Sure, that sounds nice...But wait, I can't. Tomorrow I'm having dinner with Steve and his wife. But how about Saturday? I'm free then.", you asked Javier.

"It's a date then. And since you live in my building now, I'll just come and pick you up," he told you and went back to his desk to do some more paperwork.

"A date?" you thought. Surely, he didn't mean that. It's just an expression. A common expression. Yes, that's right. Of course, it wasn't a date. He literally told you. He said he just wanted to get to know his partner better, so that's what you will do. Also, he just met you so he's probably just being nice to you. That's just what he does.

At least you have plans now. Originally you were just going to watch some TV or read a book, but going out sounds like so much more fun.

The next day went by rather quickly and so it was almost time for your dinner with Steve and Connie. You were getting ready in your new apartment which is just down the hall from Javier. You didn't know where you would be eating, but you figured that it wouldn't be anywhere too fancy, so you dressed rather casually. You heard a knock on your door and went and to open it.

"Hey, you ready to go?" Steve asked you once you opened the door. "Hey Steve, yeah, just let me get my purse quickly," you said and went to grab it. You grabbed your keys, left the apartment and locked the door behind yourself. Steve led you to his car where a blonde woman was standing who you figured was his wife Connie.

"You must be Connie. It's nice to meet you," you greeted her and stretched your hand for to shake. Connie, however, pulled you into a hug saying "The pleasure is all mine. Should we get going?" You all got into Steve's car and he started driving. The drive lasted for around 15 minutes and you arrived at a bar/restaurant called "Casa de Mariana". You could tell that this wasn't a place where Connie and Steve usually went to eat.

After all of you get settled in, you ordered for them since you were the only one that could actually speak Spanish. So far things were going great, however, one of the waiters kept looking at you inappropriately which Steve has seemed to notice.

"I swear if he keeps looking at you like that..." Steve started, but you quickly interrupted him. "Steve, it's fine. You get used to it, so just ignore it," you told him to which he just scoffed.
You could tell that Steve was protective of you which was a bit irritating if you were being honest. Up until a few days ago, he didn't even want you here, and now he is acting all protective of you. Usually, you would just ask him about it, but you figured that now was not the time.

"So where did the two of you meet?", you asked Connie and Steve which immediately brought smiles to their faces.

"Well, I was out with a friend at a bar at which Steve was bowling with his colleagues and he came over to ask me for my number because his colleagues told him I was checking him out," Connie told you.
"After I told her that my colleagues were playing a joke on me, she told me she could give me a fake number which then actually turned out to be her real one," Steve continued. "And we've been together ever since"

"Aw, that's so sweet. You two honestly seem perfect for each other," you told them truthfully.

"Alright, I'll go to the bathroom real quick," Steve told you and left the table"

"Connie?".
"Yeah?"
"I just wanted to thank you. I know that you told Steve to invite me today. And I can tell that he has been really trying to make an effort and I'm guessing that's thanks to you," you thanked her.
"Of course, I don't know what happened between the two of you that you weren't talking, but I just honestly told him that it's not how you treat family and I can tell that he truly feels bad"
"Well, anyway, thank you again"

"Do you already have any plans for the weekend?," Connie asked you.
"I do, actually. I'm going out with Javier tomorrow. I'm not sure what we'll be doing but he said that we're either going to have lunch or going out for a drink," you answered.
"You're going out with Javi?"
"Well, not exactly going out. He said that he wanted to get to know me a bit better since were going to be working together. Which is nice since you two and him are the only people I know here so far."

"That's great, (Y/N). But you should be a bit careful when it comes to Javi," she told you.
"Really? Why's that?"
"He is what some people might call a 'playboy'. He takes home a lot of women and you probably don't want to be one of those women if you're working with him," Connie explained to you.
"Oh don't worry about it. It's just going to be an innocent drink. Plus, I just met him and I just came out of a really bad relationship."

It felt great to have someone to talk to like this. You haven't had a girls talk like this since high school.

You quickly stopped your conversation when you saw that Steve was coming back.

"What did I miss?"
"Not much."

The rest of the evening went by smoothly. You had a great time and you haven't laughed like this in years.
Once you arrived back at the apartment complex, you said goodbye to Connie and told her what a great time you've had.

"Honey, you go in already. I want to talk to (Y/N) real quick." Steve whispered to Connie, so Connie went inside already.

"(Y/N), can I come into your apartment so we can talk. Just the two of us. There are still some things that I'd like to discuss with you that I didn't want to discuss with Connie there." Steve told you.

"Yeah, sure. Come in"

You had no idea what he wanted to talk about. You thought things were going great. Does he not want you to stay here? There was only one way to find out.
