Looking up, he could see traces of the stars between the forest branches that swayed gracefully with the light wind. It made for a memorable picture, one that could never be exactly replicated in a painting. The sky was a dark navy blue which contrasted beautifully with the brightness of the stars, making the branches beneath them even darker.
The breeze wasn't chilly, but it was actually quite comforting during this particular hot summer night. Hwanwoong enjoyed the feeling of the tall grass tickling his skin as it brushed up against him. The wind also caused Youngjo's hair to sweep against Hwanwoong's neck while Youngjo rested his head against his shoulder.
The feeling created a comfortable warmth in Hwanwoong's stomach. The fifteen-year-old alpha always gave Hwanwoong that feeling anymore. Ever since the alpha's presenting, Hwanwoong sees Youngjo in a new light. He's always liked the alpha, but now the feeling is a little different. However, he's not sure if Youngjo would ever reciprocate those feelings.
They were currently laying in the middle of their special spot, tucked away behind the forest line, close to the river bank. No one ever came here, at least none that they knew of. Ever since Youngjo presented as an alpha, they've come here to meet in private a few times, usually late at night when the rest of the pack was asleep. It was their special time together that Hwanwoong cherished so dearly.
"Hwanwoong?" Youngjo interrupted the serene silence, but Hwanwoong wouldn't mind. He loved hearing the young apha's voice. He enjoyed hearing the alpha's thoughts.
"Hmm?"
Youngjo shifted so that he could look directly upwards at his younger friend, meeting his gaze. "If you could have anything you wanted, anything at all, what's the one thing you would want to have or experience during this lifetime?"
"What brought this on all of a sudden?" Hwanwoong giggled at the random, but specific question.
"Just answer it. I want to know." Youngjo has always been headstrong, so Hwanwoong would have to answer.
The thirteen-year-old contemplated his response for a moment, wanting to be sure that it was an exactly accurate answer. He tapped his bottom lip to exaggerate the process. "Hmm... I can only say one thing?" Youngjo nodded quickly. "Well, then I guess that it would be to have a family someday." He said his answer very matter-of-factly.
Youngjo deadpanned. "That's it?" He couldn't believe it. "You could have absolutely anything in this world and you chose a family?"
Hwanwoong shrugged. "Well, yeah!" He exclaimed like it was the most obvious answer. "I think a family would be nice, don't you? Whether I present as an omega or a beta, or even an alpha," They both snickered at the last scenario. "I think having a family of my own someday would be quite special."
The elder couldn't disagree with Hwanwoong's response because it was what Hwanwoong wanted. Besides, building a family of his own would bring so much pride to their pack. He was the pack's future heir, so someday he would have an heir of his own.
"What would you want?" Hwanwoong asked, snapping Youngjo out of his current thoughts.
"What?" Youngjo was caught off guard.
"You asked me, so now I'm asking you. If you could have anything in this lifetime, what would it be?" Hwanwoong almost whispered the last part to his best friend. He was genuinely curious to hear what Youngjo would say.
They were both silent for a moment, only hearing the faintest hooting of an owl in the far distance until Youngjo sat upright. He turned to face the younger. "I have been thinking..."
