Cory Winchester was used to the idea of death. Every time he went on a hunt with his father, he knew he could die.
But after running away, he thought he'd be safer. No longer chasing after the things that wanted him dead.
And then he died.
Just hours until the biggest performance of his life and he died. To a hot dog, no less. A fucking hot dog. And if he wasn't so annoyed about the situation, he'd probably laugh at the whole situation.
The words Reggie had said as they'd eaten would be something he'd never forget.
"Chill, man. Street dogs haven't killed us yet."
Reggie had jinxed them. But Cory knew the boy didn't mean to. He just said what came to mind when Alex said the hot dogs had tasted funny.
They'd been sent to a black room after they died, Alex crying the whole time whilst Cory tried to figure things out in the silence.
But an hour later, they were falling, the sound of his favourite song from their demo playing. The one they'd planned on playing at the Orpheum.
"One, two three!" Alex yelled.
"Take off, last stop!" Came Luke's voice.
"Countdown 'til we blast open the top!
"Face first, full charge!"
The four boys began screaming as they fell through the air, and even Cory was confused as to why they were falling. Did this mean they were going to hell?
"Electric hammer to the heart." Luke's voice continued to sing.
The boys landed on the ground with a thud, Cory being the first to recover and help his bandmates to their feet as the music came to a stop.
"Whoa!" Luke exclaimed as Reggie let out a groan whilst stretching. "How did we get back here?"
And then screaming. Of course there was screaming. It came from a girl stood in front of them. And this girl screaming caused the three boys, minus Cory, to scream.
Cory just watched as the girl ran away, still screaming as the boys calmed down.
Idiots, he thought to himself. His friends were idiots, but he loved them.
A couple minutes later as the boys looked around their old studio, the girl returned. This time holding a cross out in front of her.
The boys hid this time. Alex's idea.
"Are you still here... whatever you are?" She asked, giving up after a moment. "I know I saw something. I'm not crazy."
"Well, we're all a little crazy." Luke said as the boys appeared behind her. The girl held the cross out, screaming again.
"Oh, my God! Please stop screaming!" Alex yelled, causing the girl to stop, but she didn't let her guard down.
"Who are you, and what are you doing in my Mom's studio?" She asked.
"Your mom's studio?" Luke questioned, edging towards the girl, who threw the cross forwards in her hand. "This is our studio! Trust me!" He hopped onto a grand piano that sat in the middle of the room, sliding across to get away from the girl. "Fine, the grand piano is new, and-and-and... My couch!"
He threw himself onto the couch, and all Cory wanted to do was hit the boy.
"That is definitely not my six-sting." He said, noticing the guitar hanging up next to the couch. He glanced around the room, taking in all the differences like the chairs hanging from the ceiling. He stood up, climbing over the coffee table. "Can you give me just one second? Just... give me a second. Thank you."
