Chapter 3 : Heartache

"Do you smell that? Surprise! It's a butterscotch-cinnamon pie. I thought we might celebrate your arrival. I want you to have a nice time living in here. So I will hold off on snail pie for tonight." Toriel greeted them as they entered her house. The calming atmosphere and the smell from butterscotch-cinnamon pie fills the air. The creamy color fits perfectly with the atmosphere. "Eh? Toriel, you don't have to bother yourself with us!" said Tanaka. Toriel laughed "What are you talking about, My child? I do not feel bothered. In fact, It's nice to have a company." She gives them closed eye smile. The five of them feel a cotton on their hearts again. "Here, I have another surprise for you." She invited them. They trailed behind her.

"This is it..." She walked to the front door of a room. "A room of your own. I hope you like it!" She ruffled their hair one by one, then realised. "Err...there are...five of you. I apologize, but...there is only one bed. Do not worry, you can sleep at my room if you want to." Nishinoya and Tanaka looked at each other. Toriel sniffed "Is something burning...? Um, make yourself at home!" Then rushed to the kitchen. They entered the bedroom. The room fit for five of them. There are box of dusty toys, a box of kids' shoes, an empty photo frame, a cupboard, a lamp and a single bed.

They sit on the floor facing each other. "I don't think I can sleep at her room. It would feel uncomfortable." Sugawara glanced away nervously. Tanaka and Kageyama nodded their head. "Hey! What's up?" Chara appeared behind Kageyama, startling Nishinoya and Tanaka. "Who are you?" Nishinoya asked. "Oh yeah. I forgot you two don't know who I am. My name is Chara. I'm one of the fallen humans aka dead. It's nice to meet ya." He introduced himself once more. "You're...not a serial killer or anything, do you?" Tanaka sit back down. Chara huffed "I am not. Who said I'm evil? I mean, I'm not innocent and stuff, but I don't have any intention to kill monster kind."  He crossed his arm. "Well, now that you're here, why don't you tell us about yourself?" Kageyama suggested. "Huh? Well, I can't tell much about it because it will be a spoiler," Chara paused to look at Hinata. "So I'm just gonna tell you what I do and how I can be here. Please only ask after I'm done!"

"I helped you on your journey. I read signs, give you enemy stats on battle through CHECK, I help hold your Soul together. I was resurrected because of Tangerine. His strong determination wake me up from the dead. I was usually 'dead' in the void, but after you came, I got pulled here. I'm impressed none of you have die yet!" Chara explained. The five of them stared at Chara in either confused or surprised, or both. Kageyama squint his eyes and looked at Chara from head to toe. "Stop staring at me like that." Chara sighed. "What do you mean by holding our Soul together? And....if we die, it's over, right?" Sugawara asked. "If...?" Nishinoya mumbles. Sugawara nodded "If." He repeated. Chara tried to hold his laughter, but failed. "Well, technically, if you're outside the Underground and you're dead, then yes. But in the Underground, NOT ON MY WATCH." Chara emphasised. "Bruh, so it doesn't matter how many times we will die, we can come back?" Tanaka clarified. "Hey, Hey, Hey! You can't just say that! You guys except Tangerine have limit. Don't die more than 6 times. I can't hold it forever. Once you start to die even more, my grip on your Soul will start to loose." Chara's expression changed. He stared at them with a serious and cold eyes. They shivered in fear.

After 5 minutes of silence, Hinata yawned, catching the attention of his friends. "Shōyō, are you tired? You can sleep y'know!" Nishinoya smiled at his junior. Hinata flinched "N-no, no, no!! I-I'm not tired!!" Hinata denied. Tanaka burst out laughing "You literally sleep halfway through his story, bruh. Go to sleep." Hinata's face flushed red. Sugawara ruffled Hinata's hair softly "That's okay. Just take some rest. We'll wake you up if we're ready to move on." He assured him. Hinata hang his head low before nodding hesitantly. He crawl to the bed and fast asleep. "Wow....He's really tired. Hinata has never been like this before, right?" Kageyama mumbled. "Oh, for once you call him by his name, Kageyama." Nishinoya smirked. Kageyama tilted his head and asked "What do you mean?" Sugawara sighed and shakes his head. "You literally call Tangerine 'Boke' almost all the time." Chara crossed his arm. "Because...he is?" Kageyama replied. "Tsundere." Nishinoya mouthed. Kageyama turn his head "What?" "Nothing."
