CHAPTER TWO
VERITASERUM TRUTH.
HOGWARTS.
august 22nd, 1976.ESTELLE HAD SUCESSFULLY AVOIDED SIRIUS BLACK FOR A BETTER PORTION OF THE DAY. She had skipped all meals, taken the back corridors to classes and had finally hunkered down in the one place she knew he would never be caught dead in; the library.
She had somehow persuaded Madame Pince to allow her access to the restricted section and had thus ended up far too divulged in her book to notice that her isolation had been broken.
At the sound of screeching chair, Estelle jumped and looked towards the source with a scowl on her features. She looked for only a moment before finding her focus in the book once more.
"Evening, Stellie. Care to divulge as to why you are avoiding me?"
Sirius could tell she wanted to be left alone, her posture stiffening as he spoke. He didn't bother to give in to her needs though, instead dropping into the chair he had pulled and throwing his legs onto the table.
He didn't hesitate before snatching the book from her hands, twisting it in his own as he observed it carefully. "Secrets of the Darkest Arts, huh? Sounds like a rather dreadful read," he spoke, pulling the book away from her as she jerked to grab it from his hands.
Instead of playing along with his games, Estelle withdrew her wand. With a flick of her wrist, the book fell to the table and she grabbed it before he even had time to register what had happened.
Madame Pince glared towards the pair, clearly displeased with the ruckus they were making but Sirius chose to ignore her. He leaned forward, reading the book over Estelle's shoulder until she slammed it shut and spun back towards him.
The boy was pleased to have the attention on him once more, a grin taking over his features as he leaned back into his previous position in the chair.
"You never showed last night."
Estelle didn't speak in response to his statement. She was growing rather annoyed with Sirius and his incessant efforts to bother her to no end.
"Why didn't you show?" He pressed, his arms drawn behind his head as he awaited her answer. He watched as her lips pulled into a thin line before she spoke. "Why would I?"
"I needed help with an essay—"
"Classes didn't even start until today," she quickly interrupted. She didn't realize how loudly she had been until an angered "Sh," was sent their way.
Sirius didn't seem bothered by the angered librarian as he laughed equally as loud, eying the girl with yet another grin.
He had never taken the time out of his day to truly analyze her. He had never noticed just how blue her eyes were, almost grey against the pale complexion of her skin. She was rather attractive, he could admit that, but the brewing storm behind her eyes was the first thing he had seen.
