chapter nine

"What are you doing with my girlfriend?"

The words stung me as I turned around to see the quarterback, still dressed in his football uniform.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't know," I replied innocently, which he totally wasn't buying. "I was lost. I'll just leave now."

Luke peered at me as I rushed towards the door. "Not so fast...I know you. Hey—you're that jerk who booed me!"

My face turned bright red as a grin spread across my face. "Oh, really? I think you've got me mistaken as I've never even been to a football game before—"

"Why'd you boo me?" he boomed angrily.

"Well, no one was and it needed to be done," I snapped back snarkily, causing him to narrow his eyes angrily at me. "I just call it like I see it."

Luke sneered at me angrily as he walked over to Annabeth, who was staring at Luke. He grabbed her arm aggressively. "Just leave my girlfriend alone."

"Ooh, I'm so scared," I taunted.

Luke squinted at me as he walked past me, bumping into me as he headed towards the door. "Don't try any funny business, okay? You're new here, so I'm gonna give you a pass, but if you cross me again...."

"Luke, let me deal with him."

Annabeth gestured for Luke to leave. He grinned at this, making me nervous. How scary was this chick?

"Wait for me outside in the hall, okay?" Annabeth asked. Luke nodded and left, closing the door behind him.

"I'm sorry about him, he just gets a little intense sometimes," Annabeth apologized half-heartedly. "Anyways, you're new, right?"

I nodded. "Yes, unfortunately. I better be going. Sorry for barging into your dorm, by the way."

She grabbed my arm. "Wait, stop. A word of advice since you're new here. Don't fuck with Luke. Don't fuck with anyone here. You're new, they won't tolerate it."

I couldn't believe it. This snooty rich girl thought she could give me advice, thought she could help me.

I laughed. "Thanks, girl, but I think I'm good without a little rich girl's advice, alright?"

Before the girl could retort the door bursted open and Luke entered, instantly rushing to Annabeth's side like a puppy dog.

I winked at Annabeth, which made both her and Luke go even more red. I jokingly raised my hands in surrender before making my way to the correct dorm where Grover was waiting for me.

"Dude, where have you been? I've been looking all over for you. If I lost you, Mr.D would've killed me!" Grover protested as I walked in, shutting the door behind me.

I tousled a hand through my hair as I sat down on the bed. "Nah, Mr.D would probably give you a medal for losing me. I, uh, got lost."

I decided against telling Grover about seeing Luke and his girlfriend, Annabeth Chase. Grover seemed like a worrier, so I didn't try to make him more worried.

After a very brief conversation, we bid our good nights and Grover instantly fell asleep, snoring loudly.

The next few days went by in a breeze. I mainly stays in the dorms since I often slept through breakfast and didn't know the campus well enough to explore.

Although I tried to snap Luke and Annabeth out of my mind, I couldn't. My first day of school was certainly going to be interesting.
