"So you plan on staying in New Orleans then?" I ask Elijah as I slice into an apple- which apparently Klaus had picked up during his trip out (which I still had no clue was about).Apparently he forgot momentarily that I need to be fed actual food and his first instinct was a few apples and caramel sauce. Not that I was complaining.
"Definitely, not only do I have to worry about Niklaus but I have a new responsibility on my hands." He says, making me flicker my eyes up to him in confusion.
Klaus hadn't spoken a word since we left the cemetery. He was pissed. I knew he left to do something- clean up some mess he made but of course Elijah neglected to tell me any details.
"What? Did you find a girlfriend?" I ask making the man shake his head with a small smile of amusement.
"I meant you Scarlett." He says making me smile. I liked Elijah and having him around would not only make me feel safer but it would definitely help Klaus. He needed Elijah, he just couldn't admit it.
"You obviously mean something to my brother and I quite like you myself. You give me hope for Niklaus." He says making me quirk a brow.
"Didn't you say the same thing about Marcel? What even happened to them two?" I ask, throwing the apple slices into a bowl.
"I'm afraid the story is a long one to divulge into. I'll tell you more soon." He says making me roll my eyes.
"But I heard about your brother. I'm truly sorry-"
"It's fine. Just a touchy subject at the moment."
I say, opening the container of caramel. He nods, understanding instantly."Well then I hope you know we won't let anything like that happen to you here. I will protect you- from Marcel, the witches, and whatever else. You have my word." He says making me nod, relaxing in his words. Two of the most powerful vampires in the world protecting me didn't sound too bad.
"Thank you, Elija-"
"And noble Elijah always keeps his word." Klaus appears in the kitchen doorway, no snarky smile or smirk. Elijah looks to him.
"Is it done?" He asks, making me look back and forth between the two in utter confusion.
"As a matter of fact, yes. Your underhanded deal worked quite well. Marcel was only too happy to accept my blood even as he accepted my heartfelt apologies. His man, Thierry, yet lives and I remain a welcome guest in the French Quarter. My only concerns now pertain to this coven of impudent witches and Scarlett's own little secret." He says his eyes flickering to me.
"What even happened while I was literally being poisoned?" I mutter in distaste, taking a bite of a slice of the apple.
"I paid a visit to my old friend- and my anger may have gotten the best of me... only slightly." He says, a small smirk forming on his face. Elijah scoffs.
"Slightly. Yes. If thats the term you'd use to describe biting Marcel's little henchman in front of every vampire in town and leaving him for dead to prove a point." Elijah says making my mouth fall open as I look to Klaus who smiles triumphantly.
"Sounds like a child's tantrum to me." Elijah adds, shooting a glare to his brother who shrugs off our looks of disapproval.
"As I said, everything has been handled. We have much more pressing issues to address anyways." He says, his eyes lingering to me.
"Like the reason Scarlett feels the need to keep secrets. Especially one as monumental as being apart of a witch bloodline." He says, his tone a little more irritated.
