Chapter 8

Ethan's POV

I like her. I like her dark brown hair. I like her dark brown eyes. I like her hands. I like her glasses. I like it when she'll wear her converse the same day I wear mine. I like it when she hugs me. I like it when she kisses my cheek. I like it when she tells me she likes me.

I like her so much.

---

I woke up Saturday morning, alone. She left. I sit up and rub my eyes. I reach for my phone on the bedside table, only to touch a piece of paper. Sorry I couldn't be there when you woke up. Love, Ev. I place the paper back on my nightstand. I yawn and stretch, and then walk to the bathroom.

I take a quick shower and get dressed. I pick up my phone to see five text messages from Mason and two from Cole.

He's back.

Mark is back.

Call me now.

Dude, find Ev.

This is important, call me ASAP.

Call me.

Dude!!!

I frantically dial Mason. He answers on the third ring.

"Mark?" Is literally all I'm able to choke out.

"Yeah, he's back," Mason tells me.

"How? Why? He's only been gone a year," I utter out.

"He left to stay with his mom. He was supposed to finish high school over there," Mason informs me.

"I know, he shouldn't be here," I reply. "I need to find Ev, man," I tell Mason.

"Go get your woman!" I hear Cole yell from the background.

"Was that Cole?" I ask.

"Yeah," Mason answers. "Seriously dude, if you don't make a move anytime soon, Mark will go after Ev. They have history. It's bound to happen," he encourages me.

"Ev wouldn't do that-" He cuts me off.

"They have history. I repeat, they have history."

"What am I even supposed to do?" I question.

"Sleep with Ev." I almost drop my phone. Just thinking of our body's pressed against each other with her under me made me uneasy.

"What?! No!" I exclaim.

I hear him sigh through the phone. "Whatever, just warning you. If you don't make her yours, Mark will."

"What do you even mean-" I don't get to finish my sentence, because he hangs up.

"Asswipe," I hiss.

I dial Ev's number, but she doesn't answer.

I toss my phone on my bed. I sit on the edge and run my hands through my hair as I think more thoroughly about the situation.

Ev can't be with Mark. Ev really can't be with Mark.

I already have Christian to worry about.

Maybe Hannah can talk some sense into her, and she'll stay clear of the two. Though, I highly doubt that, she's too stubborn.

A knock on my door brings me back to reality and out of my thoughts.

"Come in."

Hannah pokes her head in. "What's up?" she asks.
