Chapter 4

Everest's POV

I woke the next morning alone in my bedroom. I reached for my phone, but instead a piece of paper was in its place. I sat up, put on my glasses, and read the note. If you want to hang out later, text me. Love, Ethan.

I smiled at the small gesture and got out of bed. I walked to the bathroom, and stepped in front of the mirror. God, I look horrible. My dull dark brown hair stuck out in all directions, and my face looked pale. I decided to take a quick shower.

After my shower, I got dressed and chose to let my wavy hair air dry. I put on my glasses, grabbed my phone, and went downstairs. My mom and dad were still asleep, so I ate cereal. Alone. I put the dishes away, and went back to my room.

I was sitting on my bed, watching Netflix, when my phone went off. It read 'Hannah'.

        "Hello," I greeted.

"Hey Ev, come over," she said.

        "Yeah sure, what time?"

"Now," she blurted and hung up. Well then.

I took a look in the mirror. Good enough, I thought. Wait a minute, Ethan will be there. I quickly grabbed my make up bag, and applied some mascara. I put my glasses back on, because he always said he liked it when I wore them. I grabbed my car keys, left a note for my parents, and ran out the door to my car.

I arrived at Ethan and Hannah's house ten minutes later. Instead of ringing the doorbell or knocking, I texted Hannah. A minute or two later the door opened revealing a tired Ethan. His dark hair stuck out in all directions. It was hot.

He rubbed his eyes, and opened his arms. I walked towards him and wrapped my arms around his neck. He placed his hands on my waist, and pulled away to look at my eyes. I rest my forehead against his and feel the corners of my mouth go upward.

"Missed me that much huh?" he asked with raised eyebrows. I stepped away and shook my head.

"You're so full of yourself," I told him. "Hannah called. Where is she anyway?"

He ran his fingers through his hair attempting to tame it, but he wasn't successful. I stepped in front of him, and purposely leaned against him. Chest to chest. He didn't say anything. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and looked into his eyes.

        "Ethan?"

"Y-yeah." His voice sounded deeper and weird.

"Where is your sister," I questioned pushing him away. He looked startled, but quickly gathered himself. I let out a laugh.

        "She's in her room."

I nodded and headed to her room. I felt Ethan's gaze on me as I walked away.

I knocked on her door. She opened it, turned around, sat on her bed, and patted the seat beside her. I closed the door behind me and sat down next to her.

I waited for her to say something, but she just yawned, stretched, and lay down on her bed.

"Why did you want me here, Hannah," I asked as I lay down beside her.

"Ethan and Lauren broke up," she told me as she grabbed my arm and shook it with excitement. I gently slapped her hands away and sat up.
