The saloon had been closed for a couple of days, and to make up for lost time and business, the girls were worked into overtime.
The men of the town got antsy without their daily drink and potential screw, sure there was the other saloon in town but it was no Smithfield's. Nothing could compare to the debauchery within.
Ruth had a few customers on the first night of re-opening, so she was no doubt busy.
And to no surprise, she laid eyes upon a man she had seen so many time before, yet had never even talked to. She sauntered over and posed herself next to the large man.
"Hey, Big boy~" She said in her sultry voice.
"You again?" He said to her, giving her a glance up and down.
She ran her hand along his arm, just like she did when they first met.
"What can I say? A girl can't resist a man like you." She replied, lying through her teeth. She'd say about anything to make a dollar.
He sighed softly, turning his body to face her. "Let''s go, then." He told her.
Ruth grabbed his hand. "Let's go, Big Boy." She said, leading him to the stairs.
"Where do you think you're going?" A voice called behind him, grabbing his shoulder.
Ruth looked behind and saw the 'pretty boy' who beat up Tommy, her eyes widened faintly, quickly letting go of her customers hand.
"I'm sorry miss, but he ain't going nowhere with you." He gave her a distasteful look, leading the larger man away.
Ruth's cheeks grew warm, her face was definitely donning a pink hue.
"Y-Yes sir." She stammered out. She couldn't help but be intimated by him, after all he was the one who beat Tommy, who hadn't been the same since.
Ruth turned to pace away.
The large man watched her go from the corner of his eye as he was being led away by the 'Pretty Boy'
Ruth looked back, only to see them leaving. A sudden burst of courage taking over.
Ruth paced to the door but they were already riding off by the time she was outside.
'Why do I care so much about this stranger?' she wondered to herself as she watched him leave.
"Howdy ma'am." A man tipped his hat to her as he passed by to get into the saloon, bringing Ruth out of her thoughts.
"Hello, Mister." She replied as he made his way in.
Ruth looked down at her finger tips, then back into the saloon. With a sigh, she headed back to work, the doors swinging shut behind her...with only one thing on her mind.
