Carmen

The drive to Callie's seemed endless, but realistically, it was only ten minutes. I parked up and got out the car, managed to get Olivia out, our bags and guided her towards Callie's door. Since my hands were full, I gently kicked the door. "Hey. Shit, you are right, she's in a state." Callie's eyes had widened and then a determination flickered across her face.

"I told you. One thing about me Callie, I would never bullshit anyone. It's drummed into me." I was still holding up Olivia and another woman appeared at the door, who I assume to be Callie's wife.

"This is Ashley, my wife."

"Hey Carmen. Let's get you both inside." I nodded my head and Callie helped me get Olivia in.

"Sorry, I never said hello Ashley, I'm internally freaking out."

"It's all good. We need to get her in to my office."

"Okay." Between us all, we managed to get Olivia on Ashley's couch. Analysing the area, I realised what Ashley done for a living and I let out a sigh of relief. I can't help being analytical it's within me and Ashley could see me surveying her room.

"I promise, Ollie is in safe hands with me."

"I know." I leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead and walked away. I couldn't look back; it would break me. So, I left Ashley's office and back into the living area.

"Who are you?" I looked over and seen a brown-haired boy with the most gorgeous hazel eyes look at me in wonderment. Callie was quick to check him.

"Don't be rude son." I shook my head and smiled.

"It's okay Callie." I bent down to the boy and held out my hand. "I'm Carmen. Your name is?"

"Gavin."

"Well, I'm very pleased to meet you, Gavin." We shook hands, which was so cute. I stared in wonder with his small hand in mine.

"Gavin, Carmen here was in the army." Watching his reaction was absolutely adorable and I could see his mind going a hundred miles an hour. The impression was set, and I let out a chuckle.

"Did you shoot people?"

"GAVIN!!"

"Callie, honestly it is fine. I don't mind answering questions as long as you don't mind either?"

"As long as you're not too graphic." I sat on their sofa and Gavin plopped himself down next to me and I heard a cry. "Sorry, that's Chelsea. She's got the last of her teeth coming through. Do you mind sitting with Gavin and I will go and check on her?"

"No that's perfectly fine." Alone. With a kid. This should be easy, right?

"Have you shot someone before?"

"I have, yes."

"I know bad people want to hurt nice people; did you shoot them because they were bad?"

"I don't shoot people because they were bad."

"Why not?" I love his inquisitive mind, but I had to be mindful with my answers as I'm not willing to upset him, nor his parents.

"Well, has your mama ever said you've been bad?" He nodded his head that fast I thought that it would fall off his neck. "Do you deserve to be shot?" Gavin hung his head and whispered that he didn't deserve to be shot. "Well, there you go. I have to be especially trained to know who is REALLY bad compared to little guys being naughty like you." I gently poked him in the ribs, and he started giggling.
