“I do not!” I shouted, suddenly angry at his opinion. Not to mention it was spot on. So what if I love to lose myself in the story of other people. I was in love with the feelings of loss and rejection and sacrifice and everything that was woven up into these words that the authors put so much time into.
“I bet that’s why you read so much,” he continues, ignoring my protests.
I shake my head, “That’s not it. I enjoy reading, that’s all.”
“Yeah, that’s exactly what it is.” He winked at me and grinned.
Huffing, I stuffed my book back into my bag, “Thanks for the books and the yogurt, but I have to go.” I slid off of the metal chair and stood up. I went to make my way to the door when someone came in wearing a dark mask.
“Everyone, on the floor now!” he had a riffle in his hand and the blood in my veins went cold. I felt Liam’s hand on my arm as he pulled me towards the ground.
The man in the mask looked around the room; I could’ve sworn that his eyes lingered on Liam a little longer than necessary. I looked away, lowering my eyes to the ground. I felt Liam’s hand press into my back.
“Stay down,” he whispered quietly, his breath was warm in my ear. Liam got up and walked quietly towards the man with the gun.
I kept my eyes down, to afraid to see what was going on.
There was arguing, and when the gun went off there was screaming. I froze up and forced myself to look up to see if anyone was hurt.
Liam was fighting the other man for the gun and took it from him. “When are you going to leave me the hell alone?” he shouted.
The man didn’t say anything; instead he struck Liam across the face with his fist. Liam stumbled back a little and his back hit the counter. The man took the gun back from him and aimed it for Liam’s leg.
The next few seconds were in slow motion, the man’s finger was on the trigger. I pushed myself up to my feet and stepped over the people on the floor. I pushed the man with the gun away from Liam just as a shot rang out.
The sound burst in my eardrums, making everything around me ring. There was a sharp pain in my side and another shot rang out.
And then I felt as if I was on fire.
“Kaitlyn!” Liam’s voice came from the darkness that covered my vision. I felt something move from underneath me and a bell ringing.
Hands were on my shoulders shaking me.
“Kait, open your eyes damn it.” Liam’s voice was right in front of me.
I did as he said; his face was blurred around the edges a little. My side was numb with pain.
“You were shot,” he said softly, “Come on. We’re going to get you to a hospital.” I felt his arms wrap around me from underneath and I was being lifted off the ground. Pain tore through my body again.
“Don’t worry, you’re going to be okay.”
The bell that was on the door of the yogurt building rang again, it was cut short by the sound of another shot.I heard Liam curse under his breath as he ran towards the side of the building.
“I’m so sorry, Kait, just hold on.” He set me on the ground and I heard the sound of glass breaking and clicking of a lock. I was lifted up into the air again and pushed into the backseat of a car.
The soft purr of the engine calmed me a little bit, and made me feel like I was going to fall asleep. But the hum of the engine wasn’t enough to stop the franticness in Liam’s driving. The last thing I remember was hitting my head on the side of the car door and then passing out.

A/N: If you can't already tell, she's been shot in the side and the bullet has lodged itself into one of her rib bones and other then bleeding really badly, she's in a lot of pain, so before you go commenting 'daym that girl must be fragile for hitting her head and passing out' You have to understand that she's in a lot of pain, she would've passed out earlier if it wasn't for Liam helping her out of the building.
I just wanted to set that straight if you didn't understand. I know it's badly written, but in my defense I've never had my date hijacked by a shooter or been shot before... I'll fix it in the re-edits though... as you all know today is National Read-a-Thon day and I'm reading Prodigy.. (REALLY GOOD SO FAR)
Anyway, I'm going to go back to reading that, and post more later.
