I’m such an idiot. I really took my girlfriend and my friend that might have a crush on me, to get ice cream together. I thought if she saw me and Emily together being happy, she would accept it and move on. But now I’m starting to think it was a bad move. I want to bang my head on the wall right now. I felt so bad after Aspen left. But thank God I got her number from Toni. I can’t believe I never even asked her for her number. But to make it up to her I asked her to meet me at the basketball court tomorrow. And it will be just us hanging out as friends. I don’t know if this is a bad idea. If she really did like me, she can’t get over me if we keep hanging out. But I just wanna show her that we can be just friends and do friendly things without having any feelings involved.
The day after, I saw her get on the bus. She looked really tired. She takes a seat, not noticing I’m on the bus too. I then take the seat next to her.
“Oh right, I forget you take the bus in the mornings now.” She said.
“You don’t look so good.”
“Gee, thanks.”
“No, you know what I mean. You look really tired.”
“That’s cause I slept at 3 in the morning.”
“Damn, why? Did my texts keep you up all night?” I smirked. She laughed.
“Sure,” She was being sarcastic. “I just couldn’t sleep.” She leaned her head on the window and fell asleep. Her head kept bumping on it though, from the motion of the bus. So I put my hand between her head and the window. I kept my hand there for a while until it started to hurt. I then slowly took her head and placed it on my shoulder. She shifted a little holding my shirt. As we came close to our stop, I called her to wake up.
“Aspen. Aspen. Wake up.” I whispered.
“Hmm?” She hummed.
“We have to leave.” She slowly lifted her head from my shoulder and let go of my shirt. She looked around for a second to figure out where she was. “Come on, our stop’s here.” I held her hand, guiding her through the exit of the bus.
“How long was I out for?” She asked.
“Pretty much the whole ride.”
“I feel asleep on your shoulder?”
“No, you kept bumping your head on the window so I laid your head on my shoulder.”
“Thanks,” She blushed. After school we met on the basketball court which was empty. She walked in with a chocolate bar in her hands and with a confused expression.
"Here," she gave me a piece from the bar. "So why are we here again?"
"I wanted the two of us to hang out, alone. So since we both like basketball, I decided that we should have a match."
"Oh no no, I'm not playing with you."
"Why, you scared I'm gonna beat you?" I smirked.
"No I know you will," she laughs. "I told you I'm not good at it."
"Don't worry, I'll teach you. Now put your chocolate bar down and come here."
"Ugh fine," she drags her feet across the court as she walked.
"Ok, first you have to aim," I said, dribbling the ball, and showing her. "Here, try it."
"Okay, you don't have to show me every little step. I know how to play, I'm just not good."
"Okay," I put my arms in the air. She tried it and the ball actually went in. "I thought you said you weren't good."
"Just luck," she shrugged.
"Alright try again but this time, bend your arms more." I adjusted her arms, holding the ball with her hands underneath. We were really close to each other and I could hear her breathing unevenly. I knew she was uncomfortable so I let go of her hands and stepped back. "And now shoot," my voice cracks. She shoots and the ball goes in again. "Now let's have a full match." She doesn't say anything and so I take it as a yes.She had the ball first and I was on defense. She shoots and scores. She was really good and I was impressed. When I had the ball she struggled to steal the ball away especially because she stood 2 feet away from me. So I moved closer to give her a chance. I moved maybe a little too close. Her hazel eyes looked deeply into mine and I didn't even notice that I stopped dribbling.
