When I first arrived it was raining
The sky was overcast and grey
I was soaked to the bone
Pulling my luggage behind me
Waiting for the door to open
Wondering if I made a mistake.
When I first walked in it was dilapidated
Different from what I was used to
The walls were dingy and thin, slightly stained
A thousand memories left behind from people before me
Which I now had to live in.
When I looked up at the sky the other day
As usual, overcast and grey
I swung the gate open with one hand
And used the other to stop the resounding clang
I realized that this was the new normal
And it wasn't too bad.
