Chapter 13

Walking into the large building I take my gun out just in case, everybody says hello like they just walked into there aunt betty's house. I hear a gun cocking and I turn to the noise raising my gun. The sudden action causing my bat to fall to the ground making a loud clanging noise "My bad." "Anybody infected" the man yells
"One of our group was, he didn't make it." Rick answers lowering his weapon slightly. "Why are you here and what do you want." The man demands walking closer keeping his gun raised. "A chance" rick responds with exasperation, "That's asking an awful lot these days." I step forward keeping my gun raised "This is all we have right now" I announce everything going quiet for a moment. "You all submit to a blood test that's the price of admission" I groan under my breath

"We can do that" rick agrees before I can protest. Mystery man lowers his gun "You got stuff bring in you do it now once this door closes it stays closed." I run outside killing a few walkers on my way to the truck I grab my other bag and run back to the building. Once the shutters were shut I let a breath out, glenn and I hug for the millionth time but this one felt different it felt like safety not jumpy. We get in an elevator I'm stuck in-between glenn and daryl again. "Doctors always going around packing heat like that." I shove Daryl's knee making him drop the gun,  "There were plenty left lying around I familiarized myself, but you look harmless enough, except you I'm going have to keep my eye on you." He jokes to carl making him smile in awkwardness.

We make it to the floor stepping into a  white hall the feel of eyes burn into the back of my neck. "Are we underground" I look back at carol seeing shane shift his eyes "You claustrophobic." "A little" carol admits, I turn back around "Try not to think about it." We walk into a stadium looking room "Vi bring up the lights in the big room" jenner calls the lights turning on a moment later. "Welcome to zone five" he greets all of us walking down a ramp. "We're is everybody, the other doctors the staff" I look over to rick not realizing how close I was to him. "I'm it, it's just me here" I lean against the railing watching the group. "What about the person you were speaking with, Vi" I look down at the boots that glenn gave me. "Vi say hello to our guests, tell them welcome" jenner says and then an automated voice starts talking 'Hello guests, welcome."

"I'm all that's left, I'm sorry" he apologizes, we continue following the good doctor till we make it to this classroom room. Rick goes first I look away when his blood starts filling the vile. "Yea no" I groan putting my hands on my knees, glenn puts his hand on my shoulder "What's wrong" inquires. "I hate the sight of blood" glenn starts chuckling, I shove his arm. "Wait your serious, but I've seen you kill walkers without as much as a flinch" I stand up "Well it just so happens when I do I know I'm doing it for survival, but that" I point at daryl get his blood drawn "Is fucking mean." Glenn goes then I go and sit down "Relax it'll only hurt a second" He ties the thing around my arm and inserts the needle. I hiss until he pulls the needle out. "Ow " I mutter holding my arm. Standing up I sit with daryl "Stop bein a baby."

"I will bite you daryl I do not care that your my uncle" I threaten not looking at him. Before I know it we're walking, again. This time we stop in a cafeteria room, dales pours wine while we eat. "Dale can I have some" dale looks back at my uncle my eyes trailing over to him. "Migraine" he grunts, I nod my head and daryl shrugs. I smile picking up a glass and hold it out to dale.  "Thank you" I sit with glenn drinking the wine "You uh you don't drink very often" I look over at him and point to my head. "You need another head message" I nod my head as I continue to drink. I tune everyone out again until I'm pulled out of my headache relieving trance by loud booyahs.

"So when are ya going to tell us what the hell happened here doc." I look over to shane. "All the uh the other doctors there supposed to be figuring out what happened where are they." "What the hell is your problem shane, were celebrating." I stand up and pouring some more wine, "She's right we don't need to do this now." Rick sits down "Woah wait a second this is why we're here right, this is your move we're supposed to find all the answers instead......we we find him." Shane points to Jenner "We found one man why" I stare at shane not paying attention to what jenner is saying.
"Every last one" I know what shane is trying to do he wants the power, lori carl, but he can't have them. Because ricks here and he knows I'll intervene because of carl. So he's trying to make people view rick as the bad guy and him, the hero. I snap out of my murderous gaze "Dude your such a buzz kill."

"Most of the facilities power down including housing so you'll have to make do here, couches are comfortable but there are cots in storage if you like, there's a rec room down the hall that you kids might enjoy, just don't plug in the video games kay, or anything that draws power, same applies if you shower go easy on the hot water." I smile looking over at daryl. "So do you want me to stay with you or can I stay with glenn" I poke his stomach while puffing my cheeks out. "Me, but ya can shower in a different room" I frown "Awwwe I was kinda hopin I could shower with glenn" Daryl looks at me with a death glare I just laugh while walking into a random room.

I shut the door and set my bag on the couch going through it to find a clean pair of clothes and underwear. I pull out my pants when something shiny falls on the floor. I bend down to pick it up "A condom of course.....this is what I get for having dixons as family." I take my shirt and pants off before I go into the bathroom. Catching my reflection in the mirror, I frown noticing I've lost some weight my ribs are starting to show. I sigh as I step in the shower, loving the feeling of hot water fall down my skin again. I get dressed in my shorts and glenns t-shirt. Walking down the hall to the rec room I pass carol with the kids. "Goodnight" I nod my head in return, before I could get to the room the door slams shut. I put my ear on the door.

"Things were falling apart they were slaughtering people in the hallways it was a massacre there were walkers everywhere" I hear shanes voice.
"Yea so you left him" loris voice "Everybody else ran there were no doctors there it was just me he was hooked up to machines and I did not know what to do, I even took my ear and I put it on his chest and I listened to a heartbeat and I did not hear one, and i-i-i I don't know why maybe it was gun fire I don't know what it was but there wa-"

I jump back when the door gets hit, slowly stepping forward again I place my ear back on the door. "Just stop it if you thought for one second if he was still alive would you have come." It went quiet for a few moments. "HELP" I yank the door open and grab the back of his shirt and puling him back. He stumbles back, releasing my grip I stand in front of lori "Do not touch her shane" I hiss my hands balling up at my sides. He steps forward, my body involuntarily flinches making him smirk. I look behind me to lori "Lori why don't you leave" I insist nodding my head towards the door. "No I'm no-" "Lori leave now" shane raises his voice making both of us jump.

Jumping off the table she hurriedly walks out of the room. When the door shuts shane grabs my face "I warned you not to get involved" he growls squeezing my face. Kicking his knee I push him back "I'm not letting you get hurt your best friend or carl, shane I see the way you look at him. You can't have what you want so you want to eliminate the obstacle." I growl my teeth gnashing together. He steps closer to me, taking steps back fear crosses my face when my legs hit the table. "I would never hurt my best friend, but you you've been a nuisance since this all went down" he grabs the back of my head his hands balling up in my hair painfully.

Pulling my head back he gets closer to my face his breath reeking of alcohol "Your just a little girl trying to damn hard to be a woman" I sneer "And if you think I'll let you co-" the door opens and shanes hand releases my hair. Rick leans against the door frame, drunk "Lori told me to check up on you, everything alright" rick says his voice hoarse, his eyes struggling to stay open. Shane smiles laying his arm around my shoulders "Everything's great, malice and I we're just  comparing highschool experiences" shane lies. Forcing a smile I nod my head "Yea the times have really changed since y'all went to school." I add pulling myself away from shane "I'm gonna go to bed I'll see you both tomorrow" I state walking past rick.

Hurrying to the room I showered in I lay down on the couch covering up and going to sleep. A creaking wakes me up from my black sleep, rolling over I see a blurry figure standing in the door way "Daryl" I mumble groggily. The figure takes a step closer and shuts the door leaving me looking around in the dark. I sit up and they push me back down on the couch "If you think I'm gonna let you tell rick" I shake my head "Shane you made your point, I'm not gonna tell him" My eyes adjust and I see him bend down to pick something off the floor. "Damn you dixons sure know how to get around don't ya" he says holding the condom in-between his fingers. My body heat up from anger "We don't sleep around and I'll have you know asshole I haven't slept with anybody"I snap, he slaps me my eyes squeezing shut from the pain. "I see the way you look at rick, he's not going to want you" he grunts taking another drink from his bottle.
