I don't swear but oh are the words ready to come out. The man was still looking at me."So wait, you mean like the Williams Williams?" I whisper, remaining calm.
"Yes, what other Williams?"
"Like the owners of this house, Williams?"
"Yes darling now please, let me listen." Hisses Mother, completely oblivious to the traumatised expression on my face.
"Thank you for listening, and please enjoy your evening." Says the man in the coat, or should I say the snobby man who bosses everyone around.
But then again, it is his house.Oh my Goodness, he really does live here, what on earth was I thinking?
Then he turns his eyes to me again. "And I encourage everyone to take a look around the gardens." He smiles. "They really are a beauty to look at."
Smug bastard. Hope he drowns in his cockiness. Who does he think he is? Walking like a peacock towards me as if I give one flying... wait.
Why the bloody hell is he walking towards me? Oh no. Act natural, you don't care that you basically told him to bugger off from a stranger snooping around his house. Yes. You're fine. Show him you're not scared. Oh no. I'm terrified. He's so tall."Hello, you must be Madeline." He murmurs, is that annoyance laced in his voice? How does he even know my name? Absolute psychopath.
"Yes, I am." Is all that comes out of my impulsive mouth.
His eyes search the room and then he moves closer, his brows furrowed. "I think you should try the scones, they're a wonder when one's feeling a little rustic."
I drop my mouth wide open, and before I can even utter a word, he bows as if he's some sort of prince and walks away.
What a smug, conceited, pompous, priggish, vainglorious, holier-than-thou-
"Darling, they brought out the desserts." Exclaims Mother, interrupting my insulting thoughts.
"Oh yes, yippee!" I yell, trying to comprehend what the scoundrel just mumbled to me.
"Darling?" Mother says. "Desserts!"
I wasn't about to allow this scoundrel to ruin my evening. "Yes! I'll be over in just a second, just need to powder my nose."
"But you just came from the loo-" I'm already, practically running away before Mother finishes her sentence.
I stop quickly by one of the tables holding the assortments of gold, chocolate and cavities and stuff a few Mayca truffles in my bag, more like a dozen really, grab two chocolate chip cookies and finally about 100 after eights, truly the best sweets in the world, and I commence my exploration.
There's one place I'm looking for in particular, and it's the library that this castle hides and treasures. A few guards in the halls scare me but I continue on as if I'm the long lost duchess."Sorry I was just wondering if you could point me to the library?" I ask nervously and they look to each other squinting their eyes and quickly, to save myself from rejection I gather all the practice from my drama lessons and begin act one. "My husband told me to meet him there as soon as the toasting ceremony finished."
Not sure if I convinced them but the guard to my left points me to a way. "Just to the left, take the stairs and then next door on the right." Responds the guard though I can tell they didn't fully buy the story.
I retreat and walk slowly. Mustn't look too eager or plan may explode. Mustn't forget how forgetful I am but the directions to the library have already left my soul. And so I walk, though lost I may be I'm in the hallways where the magic happened, where the most beautiful love story was created, and then destroyed.
I keep walking and oh my goodness, somebody punch me. In the centre of the halls, I can look down and I see the kiss happening, Matthew and Mary and their love burning. So I run again, past the halls, down another set of stairs and... bloody hell.
There's a man and I can only see his back, but it's him. With his snarky aura and the chestnut hair... Scoundrel. Scoundrel minding his own business in his damn own house.
So I start walking away slowly not wanting to make any noise, not in the bloody mood to deal with a human so intolerable-
My thoughts are interrupted by the sudden sweet sound of music."Would you dance this song with me?"
