It's still early when I wake up, tossing over to examine Finnick's face, my eyes seeing perfectly through the darkness as if it were daytime. A section of curled bed hair lies over his right eye and his nose twitches adorably every now and then. I smile as I look up at the roof, waiting excitedly for him to wake up to see the Christmas surprise I had waiting for him. Last year I approached Christmas with my normal attitude, not bothering to take part in useless festive activities. However, once Finnick had taken me out to the forest I suddenly remembered what it was like to love Christmas, and even better, to spend it with someone you loved. Christmas this year was in two days and besides Finnick buying countless reindeer decorations because they looked cute and he felt sorry for them since they were on clearance, we hadn't done much to celebrate. I did have something planned of course, someone like Magnus Bane goes big or goes home, and a few ceramic reindeers with chipped antlers because the cats kept running into them wasn't good enough for me.
I had a big stash of Christmas decorations hidden away in a large closet (that Finnick never opened because it held my glittery clothes and he hated constantly finding glitter everywhere) and in the middle of the night I had slipped out of bed to decorate the house, even pulling out a real tree I had bought the day before. Finnick adores Christmas and I can't wait to see the look on his face when he steps out into the living room.
When I hear the sheets rustle beside me I look over to see Finnick waking up, so I move closer to him and smile.
"Good morning."
"How long have you been awake Magnus? I can always sense when you've been waiting for me to wake up." Finnick says as he sleepily rubs his eyes.
"I'm sorry, I just can't help it when you're so adorable." I answer, ignoring his question.
I lean down to press our lips together and he wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me closer. I move in for another kiss but he suddenly turns his head to the side, looking curiously at the door.
"Do you smell...cinnamon? And pinecones? And...a lot of different things?"
That would be the Christmas scented candles I set out, charming some of them to float around the apartment. I hide a grin and shrug, trying to act casual. Finnick slips out from under me and pulls on a sweater and even though I miss his warmth I quickly replace it by putting on my own sweater, ignoring Finnick's shaking head when he realises that it's covered in glitter.
When Finnick steps out of the bedroom I follow closely behind, and immediately see his eyes light up. A smile forms on his face as he looks at everything in the room; floating mistletoe and candles, countless garlands of tinsel and fairy lights hanging from the walls.
"Magnus." He says excitedly as he turns to face me. "What is all of this? And...is that snow??"
"It's your own Winter Wonderland, put together by the one and only Magnus Bane. And yes, but it's charmed to never settle on the floor or furniture and won't make the apartment cold. Do you like it?"
"Of course I like it." I can't help but smile at Finnick, looking like a little kid on, well, Christmas day. "I can't believe you did all of this for me. Aw, I love you Magnus."
Finnick steps towards me and wraps me in a warm, sweater hug and kisses me delicately, his still messy bed hair brushing against my forehead.

"Ok, now add....how much golden syrup? That can't be right." Magnus exclaims as he leans closer to the recipe book.
Magnus and I stand in the kitchen baking gingerbread men, although of course we decided to turn them into gingerbread cats instead. Magnus had also bought some edible glitter to decorate with, but I wasn't too sure about that. Every time I touched glitter (which was a lot since I lived with Magnus) I ended up finding it all over myself for weeks after, so I couldn't imagine how annoying it would be when you found it stuck between your teeth instead.
I move to stand behind him, pressing my body against his and leaning over his shoulder to make sure he hasn't messed up tragically yet. I begin stirring the mixture whilst he cracks in an egg, but stop when he gets a bit of shell in the bowl.
"You've lived all of these years but still you're a hopeless baker? Geez Magnus, where do your priorities lie?" I tease whilst I try to fish out the shell.
"Hey!" Magnus exclaims as he turns slightly, still pressed comfortably against my body. "If I had spent so much time baking I wouldn't have been able to perfect my eyeliner. It's not easy as it looks you know. And anyway, I'm not that bad at baking. It's just throwing stuff in a bowl. Easy."
As he says that he begins to stir in the flour, but since he added it all at once instead of gradually a big mass of flour puffs up, leaving white blobs on his face. I step back laughing as he turns to face me, clearly unimpressed.
"Loving this new style on you Magnus! I think it just needs one more thing to complete the look." I say as I dip my finger in the wet, brown mixture and draw a curly moustache on his face before he can stop me.
"Oh be quiet you." Magnus replies as he grabs me in a bear hug from behind and blows flour onto my cheek.
Leaning forward to escape from his grip I rub my hand in the golden syrup and turn back to smear some on his cheek, an unnatural sound escaping from him in reply.
"Oh you are dead meat now." Magnus says with a smirk.
I turn to run away, but it's too late. Magnus grabs an egg and breaks it over my head, the whites oozing down my neck.
"Ugh Magnus that's disgusting it's so slimy!" I exclaim as I wipe some of the egg away.
After a few more minutes of egg cracking and flour throwing, I grab hold of Magnus' sweater, pulling him down to the ground with me and we sit together with our backs pressed against the cupboards.
"Look at us." I say with a laugh as I look at his new moustache.
"Everyone is going to be so jealous when they see our new makeovers." Magnus replies with a grin, and despite all of the sticky things on our faces he leans forward to kiss me, his arm resting over my knees.

After putting the gingerbread in the oven and both having very long showers, Finnick joins my on the couch, sitting on my lap and wrapping an arm around my shoulders. He wears a fresh sweater, maroon cable knit to match my own forest green one. When he looks around the apartment I see the gleam return to his eyes and I smile, nuzzling my head in the crook of his neck.
"I'm glad you like it." I whisper.
"I love it." he says as he plays with my hair. "I still can't believe you did all of this for me. I feel bad that I didn't make you some big Christmas surprise."
"Mmh, your company is enough. It's better than all those years I spent Christmas alone, not even realising it was Christmas until the carollers showed up at my door."
It's cheesy but it's true. I lift my head to meet his mouth and smile into the kiss as I feel him place his hand on my cheek, a hand that is mostly covered by the sleeve of a sweater that's too big for him. He gently runs his fingers over my cheek and he presses his body closer to mine, his warmth seeping into me with every kiss. I pull away to look at his face, admiring his messy hair. I like his hair best when it's tangled and out of place, every morning when he wakes and every time he steps out of the shower. I run my fingers through it as I look into his eyes, smiling at his dorky grin.
"You are the most beautiful and adorable person I have ever met, what did I ever do to deserve you?" I whisper admiringly.
"I don't think we'll ever know." Finnick teases as he shifts around so that I'm lying on the couch, his body gently pressed against mine.
His lips glide over the skin on my neck as I wrap an arm around his waist and trace circles with my palm on his back. Slowly, his kisses make their way up to my mouth and as we kiss passionately I can't help but slide my hands under his sweater, running my fingertips over his strongly defined muscles. I let a small, delighted moan escape my lips and move my hands to glide over the skin on his back. I press in more to the kiss but he pulls away, my lips instantly longing for his again. I frown and place a hand under his chin, hoping to pull him back down but he sniffs the air with an annoyed look on his face.
"Dammit Magnus, we forgot the cookies in the oven."
I sigh at the ruined moment and feel his mouth on mine one last time before he races into the kitchen.
