"So." Finnick says as he sits cross-legged next to me on the couch, handing me a steaming mug of coffee and clasping his own in his hands. "It's Christmas Eve, are you excited?"
I watch the steam rise from Finnick's coffee and give a small shake of my head.
"Once you've lived hundreds of years things like Christmas loose their novelty. You'll realise that someday. I wouldn't have even put up these decorations if you didn't force me to."
"Oh come on." Finnick says with a laugh. "Christmas is fun! And you've got to admit, the mistletoe is pretty great..."
"I don't think it counts when you put it all over the roof Finnick." I say as and laugh as I look up.
"I'll use it as an excuse anyway." Finnick says with a grin as he leans forward and presses his warm lips to mine.
I place my free hand on his shoulder and smoothly run my thumb over his collarbone, feeling the warmth of his skin. I feel almost disappointed when he pulls away but quickly smile when I see the goofy grin on his face and the adorable pleading look in his eyes.
"But come on Magnus, we have to do something special this Christmas. It's our first one together."
"Wasn't knitting The Chairman a sweater special enough?" I ask.
I let out a laugh as I see Chairman Meow walk past in a red and green sweater covered in countless loose threads, half of those caused by the careless knitting and the other half due to his endless attempts to rip the sweater off of his body.
"Hey, it's cute." Finnick says as he places The Chairman on his lap, seeming not to notice his clawing at the sweater. "And no, knitting for your ungrateful cat is not enough. Surely there's something that you like about Christmas. Let's start simple; how about we go for a walk in the woods tomorrow."
"Alright." I give in. "But if you try to sing one corny Christmas duet with me I'm leaving."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Merry Christmas darling." Finnick says as soon as I open my eyes, snuggling his head against my neck.
"I know that you're quoting a Christmas song, don't think you can get away with that." I grin and rub my cheek against his messy bed hair. "Also, were you watching and waiting for me to wake up? Because that is a little creepy you know."
Finnick chuckles and props himself up on one elbow.
"I'm excited ok. I love Christmas, stop being such a Grinch."
Finnick pushes away the covers and a chill immediately hits my legs, forcing me to get up and dress for the day. As soon as I pull on my socks Finnick is dragging me out into the kitchen where we eat our breakfast and sip on hot cocoa. Before I can barely let my food settle I am slipping into boots and wrapping a scarf around my neck and Finnick's.
"Alright Finnick." I say, still holding on to the ends of his scarf. "Take me to your winter wonderland."
We walk with our gloved hands pressed together and our boots sinking deep into the snow. I squint my eyes as I peer into the forest.
"There aren't any bears in here are there?"
"You're not telling me that Magnus Bane is scared of bears are you?" Finnick teases.
"No." I protest. "I just happen to know that they are attracted to my hair gel."
Finnick chuckles and let's go of my hand, turning to face me.
"Let's build a snowman."
"A snowman?"
"Yes, a snowman." Finnick presses a palm to my chest. "Come on, as my Christmas present you have to go along with everything I say today."
"Ok, ok fine. But it has to be a snowcat. With a snow turban."
Finnick shakes his head as he laughs and immediately bends down to start creating a huge ball of snow.
After several minutes our snowcat is finally finished, with a rather questionable looking turban.
"Perfect." Finnick says, as if he's looking at a masterpiece painting instead of a pile of snow.
"I agree. Maybe you'd look good with a snow turban as well." And before Finnick realises what I'm doing I throw a snowball at him.
Finnick opens his mouth with a look of surprise and enjoyment that melts my heart.
"Alright then, so that's how it's going to be Magnus. I'll have you know that I was the champion of many snowball fights during my short life time."
Finnick quickly assembles a snowball in his hands, but not before I get the chance to run and hide behind our snowcat.
"Don't you dare make me ruin Snowman Meow." Finnick says with a gasp before running around to throw a snowball at my thigh.
I laugh and throw snowballs behind me, then run to take shelter behind a tree, dodging Finnick's snowballs as I go. The sound of snow crunching under Finnick's boots reveals that he has followed me to the tree, and we both walk circles around it as we try to find the other. We suddenly both turn around at the same time and bump into each other, the snow dropping from our hands and onto our already snow covered boots. I grin and grab fistfuls of his maroon sweater as I push his back gently against the tree. He presses his forehead to mine and rubs our cold noses together before bringing his lips to my jawline, kissing it until he finds my mouth. When he pulls his head away from mine he says two simple words:
"Snow angels."
I smirk to hold back a laugh.
"Snow angels? Sounds like something a Shadowhunter would make."
Before I can protest anymore, Finnick gently pushes me down to the snow covered ground with him.
"Let's see who can make the biggest."
"You are surprisingly such a loser Finnick Odair." I say with an admiring smile as I spread out my arms and legs despite my previous words.
When we finish making our angels, Finnick turns to me and grins.
"I think I won." He claims.
I shake my head as I rolll over to lie on top of him.
"You have snow on your nose." I say with a grin as I wipe the white dust off with the sleeve of my sweater.
Finnick reaches his head forward to touch our lips together, and entangles a hand in my hair, the warmth from his kiss spreading throughout my body regardless of the snow surrounding us. I pull my head only just away from his, watching the sea in his eyes.
"Merry Christmas Finn."
