Vennela's Point Of View

*****

I felt my phone vibrating besides me. I slowly opened my eyes and realised that I'm no longer in my room. I looked sideways and saw Dr. Jay fast asleep. It was five in the morning. I've always been a early morning riser while Vibha is completely opposite to me. Amma and me always had a tough time waking her up for her college.

I sat up slowly and felt a pain in my back. I ignored it and walked towards the washroom. Amma had kept a simple green saree for me in my luggages , asking me to wear it on the first day at my in laws. I seriously felt it odd. But I chose to go for it. After a quick shower I draped myself in the saree and stepped outside. Surprisingly , I couldn't find Dr. Jay anywhere.

I walked downstairs to the kitchen , which Divya Akka had showed me yesterday. I saw Dr. Jay's mother already inside. She was making tea for everyone I guess. I took a deep breath and walked inside.

"Good morning aunty"I wished her politely with a fake smile. She turned towards me and just nodded.

"Good morning Vennela. I didn't knew that you're an early morning riser. It's good though"she busied herself in work. I wondered how to start a proper conversation with her.

"Umm shall I help you aunty?"I asked.

"Yes of course. Daughter's in laws are meant to help in household works as well right?"she asked coldly and it hurted me a little.

"Give it to me aunty. I will do it"I said

"No it's okay. It's already done. If you can , please do a make a cup of black tea for Jay. He usually prefers that once he return back from the gym"she said

So had gone to gym early in the morning?

And...he prefers black tea. Just like me.

God. Vennu , grow up.

I scolded myself and snapped outside the thoughts. Hema aunty then introduced me to the kitchen essentials and other things. I noticed how harshly she was speaking with me. But I just nodded and started making tea for him.

"One more thing. Don't add too much sugar into it. He won't like it"she concluded

"Sure"I said.

"Fine then. Today I wanted you and Vibha to prepare breakfast for everyone but I don't think you'll sister will be able to make it up on time"she said and I can feel a sarcasm in it.

"Do you mind doing it alone Vennela? Because I have to leave for the temple along with Jay's dad today"she asked

"No aunty. I will do it"I said and she nodded to walk away.

"Just a minute aunty"I called her back and she stopped , turning towards me.

"Are you dissapointed with this marriage? Because I could see how badly you were struggling to keep a happy face yesterday. Vibha is innocent. She needs your blessings. Please don't hate her"I said as my eyes teared up. She turned towards me and narrowed her eyebrows.

"Not even a single human being living inside this house is happy with this marriage Vennela. What else you expect from me?"she asked coldly and my heart felt heavy.

"Aunty I know what they did was a mistake but --"she cut me off in between

"There's no point in saying that again. My husband wanted both the marriages to happen on the same day and it did Vennela. That doesn't mean that we are ready to accept you both into our family wholeheartedly. It will take so much time"she said and I lowered my head. A drop of tear escaped my eyes.
