Blinking away the sleep from my eyes, I reach out my arm to pick up my ringing phone. I don't even bother checking the caller ID as I barely hold the phone against my ear, answering the call. I rest my eyes in the dark room as I let out a small huff of air.

"Y/N? Sorry for calling you so late." I shake my head, the arm not holding my phone moving up to cover my eyes.

"Shoto?" My voice is ridden with sleep, "what is it sweetie?" I clear my throat, a bit of energy surging through me.

"I just got off patrol, and wanted to give you a call." I feel a smile spread across my lips.

"That's sweet." I hum softly, "be careful on your way home sweetie."

"I will. Do you mind staying on the phone?"

"The pro hero Shoto, scared?" He chuckles softly on the other end, it's almost pained though, "is something wrong sweetie?"

"I just miss you. I," he takes a deep breath that stutters into a small coughing fit, "how are you?"

"Well a bit tired, but I'm happy to hear your voice. How are you?"

"Same honestly. Hey did you remember to lock the doors and turn off all the lights?"

"Of course, I forgot one time."

"I'm just making sure. I'm not always there to check after all." I chuckle softly.

"You worry too much Sho, I'm fine."

"I know," I hear him take a deep breath, "you make me happy Y/N."

"Well you make me happy too, Sho." His deep, airy chuckle flows through the phone.

"I have to go." His voice is growing quiet, almost as if he's about to pass out while we talk.

"Almost home?"

"Yeah, almost." I smile, dropping my arm back to my side.

"I'm glad. I mean you sound like you need the rest."

"Yeah, I definitely do. I love you Y/N, goodnight." I can't help the smile spreading across my face as I open my eyes to pitch black.

"Love you too Sho." He hung up, and I didn't bother moving my phone back to the table as I drifted off to sleep with a small smile.

Unbeknownst to me that as my body lulled itself into its unconscious state, kilometers away, witnessed only by the cold night sky, slouched against a secluded alleyway wall, he drew his last breath. A content smile on his face as the color drains from his limp body. The only warmth coming from the still glowing device laying in his lap, with none other than a picture of me open.
