That night, Jack recounted their exciting adventures that day to all the other newsies as they got ready for bed. The littler ones gathered around Jack in rapturous attention. She sat quietly, massaging her knuckles as she let him tell the story. She was not one for immodesty, and would’ve quite liked to just forget it all. When he finished, they all whooped and cheered her. They all slapped her back and spitshook as the were getting ready for bed. However, Mush noticed something on her arm. In fancy script there were two phrases, “Ti Amo Molto.” and “Non Scordar Mai De Me” in red scars. He gestured to it and said, “What is that?” She looked and her eyes filled, quite unwillingly, with tears.
She ran outside and Race followed her, knowing what it meant and wanting to help a friend, a fratello. She looked at him and said in a gruff boy voice, “I'm not an emotional person, I can promise you that, but he was my only brother. These were the last words he ever said and I got a girl to carve them into my arm so I would always remember his sacrifice. He saved my life that night.” He nodded . She turned away and said, “Tell the others that, and that I will be in in a moment. I just need a moment to clear my head.” He went inside, not suspecting a single thing. He told them, and they accepted her well thought out response. She ended up coming inside with clear eyes and everyone went on getting ready for bed as usual. She got ready and sighed quietly once she was there. She knew she had come very close to revealing her secret, something that she had to protect at all costs.
Ti Amo Molto-I love you very much
Non Scordar Mai De Me- don’t ever forget about me
