"What are you afraid of?" she asked him.
He looked at her, the wind was blowing her blonde hair and a smile was playing on her lips. As she stood there with her hands on her hips, dressed in normal jeans and a jacket covering her clothes, the dark sky had fallen over them.
"Falling!" Matty shouted at her.
They were standing on a cliff, looking over the city. She stood so close to the edge Matty could never go that far out. He looked at how confident she stood like she wasn't afraid of anything. Like there was no limit for her. Like she could go as far as possible without ever twitching from fear. Like fear was a vocabulary she didn't know about.
She reached out her hands for him to grab them and with hesitation he did. Her cold fingers wrapped around his hands, leading him closer to her.
As he sneaked a peak out of the edge he saw how far up they were and he couldn't bear himself so he swallowed hard and tried to stay calm.
"I never thought you would be so scared of hight?" she chuckled, holding him steady on his feet.
"Why?"
She shrugged. "You just seem so fearless with your black and white fancy clothes and dark curly hair. You're tall and -well- skinny." she shone up.
"Are you stereotyping me?" he asked.
"I'm just saying, I thought you were more of a man than this."
He rolled his eyes at her and she nudged him with her knee so he almost lost his balance.
"Hey!" he cried out. As he took a hard grasp around her upper arms. She grinned at him.
"Watch it."
As he tried to move away from her and back to the car he felt his legs weak and he thought they were going to collapse under him. When he was about 4 feet away from the edge he felt himself calm down. The blonde tiny figure in front of him walked past him with steady steps and sat down on the bonnet. She leaned her back to the window and looked at him.
From her pocket she picked up a cigarette packet and flipped it open. She took out a cigarette and put it between her teeth. Closing the packet and putting it back. Matty walked over to her with a lighter in his hand and leaned in to her. Him lighting up the edge of the cigarette she immediately drew in the tobacco. She turned her head a little to blow out the smoke and he jumped up beside her.
Both of them sat on the bonnet in silence looking at the cloudy dark sky that had fallen over the city. There was a few stars that you could see behind the clouds and a thin slice of the moon was revealing behind the fog. It was october and the air was a bit chilly so Matty tightened the coat around his torso. The girl looked at him while puffing her cigarette, then she offered it to him as he had done in the car about five days ago and he thankfully accepted it. She leaned her temple on his shoulder and sighed a little.
"What is it?" he asked her.
She sat up straight and smiled at him, "nothing." she said. But he could see something bothered her. He also straightened his position and turned to her.
"I know something is going on. I can see it."
She yawned and then stood up on the bonnet. His eyes following her, and looking up.
"Wow, okay I think we need something to stir it up a little. Don't you think." she said, jumping down from the car.
"What can you offer?" he asked her.
She walked over to his side, leaning in so their faces were only inches away. She breathed on his face with her hands fallen to the side. A smirk on her pale pink lips and she blinked a few times then she brought the cigarette up to her mouth and puffed it, blowing the smoke in his face. Matty was surprised he hadn't notice her taking the cigarette from him and before he could say anything she walked off to the back of the car.
