WITH A CAMERA IN ONE HAND AND A JAW STRING BAG ON HER BACK, GRACE RAN UP THE HILL BREATHLESSLY. Gripping tighter onto the camera huffing out words, she looked back a few times watching as Chris and Jimmy looked under the tarp she had been previously hiding under. Trees flew by in blurs and the fall air nipped at her cheeks and nose turning them a rosey pink hue.
Off to west, the sun began to set and the weight of her bag seemed to grown heavier as she began to grow tired. Stopping behind a tree big enough to cover her figure, she bent down and opened her bag fishing out the water bottle. Taking a few gulps of the cold water, she leaned her back against the tree in attempt to relax and catch her breath.
"Babe?"
The sudden voice made the girl jump letting out a sharp gasp turning around. Standing a few feet away in his gear, Karl held his hands up in surrender. Letting out a sigh of relief, Grace shoved her water bottle back into her bag standing up.
"Don't to that!" She groaned.
"I'm sorry." He apologized walking closer. "I knew you were jumpy, but not that jumpy." He joked with a light laugh.
Punching his chest softly, Grace rolled her eyes watching as darkness filled the sky. The sun was officially gone as was any warmth left in the air. The rustling of trees could be heard as the wind blew and the sky around them became darker and darker making the trees nothing but black silhouettes.
"How close has Jimmy got to finding you?" She asked looking from the sky to her boyfriend who had stepped closer.
"I had to run a few times." Karl admitted.
Shaking her head in a laugh, Grace took a step forward wrapping her arms around his torso. Immediately he hugged her back with a goofy smile enjoying the feeling of her in his arms. "You always were the one to run and hide." She mumbled against his chest.
"Hey!" He cried making her look up to meet his eyes with hers. "I'm my defense, I've gotten this close to winning multiple times!" He ranted making a small gap between his thumb and pointer finger.
Lifting a brow, the female just grabbed his hand in hers placing a kiss on it. "I know," she smiled sweetly. "And I'm proud of you."
"Yeah... so shush."
Letting out a laugh from his words, Grace watched as Karl looked at her lips for a second before looking away. She knew what he wanted and rolled her eyes placing her palms on his cheeks. Moving her face close to his, she let her eyes close moving in. Karl smiled and closed his eyes leaning in as well.
A rustling was heard along with Chris shouting, "I think I see someone up there!" This caused the couple to separate before even being able to touch lips in a kiss.
With wide eyes, Grace went to say some but Karl gave her a look. "Don't even think about it. I'll stay and you run, I got this." He reassured looking over to the flashlights that moved closer. "Go on, Grace."
"But what about the 60,000 dollars?"
Looking once more over his shoulder, Karl looked back grabbing her face capturing her lips with his. It wasn't a long kiss, but it was one still filled with happiness and care. "Go win it for the both of us." He mumbled out against her lips pulling away looking back to the flashlights that was closer now.
"I will." Grace nodded stepping back still quite aware their pinkies were connected. "Then we can go buy that new PS4 game."
"God, you're perfect." He muttered under his breath as the sound of yelling increased and along with the sound of multiple rushed footsteps crunching the leaves.
With a smug smile coating her lips, Grace simply said, "Uno reverse." Then turned letting their pinkies break apart taking off into the trees only looking back to see Karl give one last encouraging nod before Jimmy and Chris broke through the branches.
