“Okay…am almost done…” I put some last of my belongings on my luggage and zipped it close. “There, all packed up.” I dust myself and looked around my room. It’s quite empty now. My brothers were lifting the boxes downstairs. I sigh. I am finally leaving this house. I’m going to miss my fam but it’s time to live out there with no parents babying you and no brothers would put a prank on you while sleeping. I am so glad that I’m friends with Ayla…but all she’d done to both me and Ash were too much. We must pay her back…
“Then I think it’s time to find a job…” I murmured and take a one glance in my room before I exited. When I arrived at the living room, boxes were scattered on the floor. “I’m gonna call someone to bring your things to Ayla’s house…wait a bit.” My mom said and starts dialing a number. “I’m going to miss you big sis.” Tristan suddenly hugged me and followed by my other brother, Joseph. “I’m going to miss you both too…” I hugged them back. Even though we’re not in good terms sometimes, they are still my demi bros.
“When me and Joseph will be in college, shall we live in with you and Ayla?” Tristan asked. Joseph nod happily, agreeing to what his younger brother says. “Well, it depends to her answer.” I pat their heads and the doorbell rang. “I’ll get it…” I said and went to the front door and open it. “How can I help-…”
I halted in surprise to the person in front of me. Smiling from ear to ear while holding a bouquet of roses in his hands. “Ben?”
Someone appeared behind him, “don’t forget about me hot chic…” Ben scowled Ryan at his back and nudge him on the ribs. He yelped. “Honey! I can’t call the truck! Should you wait till tomorrow? And why are you standing at-…” My mom halts her step and went beside me. “Uhm, may I help you?” My mom asked.
“Good morning Mrs. Morgan, uh we are here to pick up Trina today…we’re Ayla’s friends.” Ben said while gesturing themselves and hand the flowers to my mother, “and this is for you…”
My mom awed, “Oh it’s beautiful. Thank you…” then she looked at me with one brow raised. “Why didn’t you tell us that you’re dating with this cutie…”
I suddenly choked on my own saliva while Ben stood there awkwardly in front of my mom. “Mom!”
“What?”
“Mom, what’s happening out there?” Shoot! Not my brothers!!
They both looked at me confused and suddenly widened their eyes. “Dad!! Trina’s got a boyfriend!!”
“Tristan! Joseph!!”
I pulled them both inside and shushed them. “Oh, so he really is your boyfriend…” Joseph teased and both of them scrammed before I get my revenge. “Oh, where are my manners…please come in…”
No no no no no no!!! My dad is here!! Dammit!!
“Who’s Trina’s who?” My dad’s voice boomed in the living room. Making me shivered in his tone. “D-dad!! Hey old man!! Hehehe, he’s not my boyfriend okay? He is just my friend.” Well, being dad he is, he didn’t listen to what I say. Great!!
I faced palm myself to my dad who was now asking a lot of questions. “Who are to my daughter again?” I was about to confront my dad when Ben raised his hand to stop what I’m about to do. “Hello sir, a pleasure to meet you. My name is Ben Reynard and this is my friend Ryan Scott Crawford.” Ben’s smile never left his face. Why is he so calm? “Oh my, the heir of the Crawford industries.” My mom lightly squealed. Talk about rich kid here.
Ryan gave him a handshake and my dad gladly take it. Oh what’s this? Change of mood? “And we are friends with your daughter. Ayla wants us to help her stuff.” I looked over to see my dad’s reaction. He was calm but I can sense something…off? “Dad?” I called.
“Oh uh..yea sure…please come in.” My dad said and excused himself. That’s strange. I never see him acted that way. “Boys, would you like some juice?” my mom offered. “No thank you Mrs. Morgan, we will be going now after this.” Ben said with smile and my mom nods. “You didn’t have to do this guys.” I said.
Ryan snort. “If only Ayla would stop commanding us.” Oooh…what did Ayla do now? Ben sighed, “if you want to know why…well this is Ryan’s punishment. And the other guys were helping Ayla to do house chores.” I’m glad I went home after that. “Ugh, can we get this over with? I want to go home now.” Ryan huffed and carry some boxes in his car. Ben laugh lightly. “He deserved it…”
I cleared my throat. “Thanks Ben…for this.” I shyly said and tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear. I was about to make a conversation with him when my little rascal brothers butted in. “Wow, I feel bad that you’re not my sister’s boyfriend…right Seph?”
“I agree with you Trist…he got the looks and I bet he’s kind too.”
I shot them a warning glare to shut their mouths. “If you want to know more about our sister, feel free to ask us anytime big bro…oh…and if she ever wakes up late, the only solution is-…”
“Ooowkaaayyy guys! Time to leave!! Brothers you can go now. Mom! Dad! We’re leaving!!” I shooed my brothers and wave my parents goodbye earning a deep chuckle at Ben. I dragged him out of the house and went to Ryan’s car. Opening the passenger seat, I lightly shove Ben inside. “Phew, finally some peace.”
I noticed Ben beside me chuckling. “What’s so funny?” I asked him and he just shook his head. “I like your brothers…and your parents too. They’re so sweet.” Ben said.
“While Trina is the opposite of sweet…”
I scoffed at Ryan. “Just keep driving okay? We might crash…” I heard Ryan groaned. Once again, I looked at Ben. “If you just want to help me with my stuff, why did you brought flowers?” I asked and he looks away. I can see the red shade of his cheeks. He’s blushing again…cute.
“Well, it’s a permission to ask that I-…” he shut his mouth before saying something…hmm I dunno. “Uh, I mean to…help you with the boxes…hehehe”. He scratched his nape awkwardly and averted his gaze to the window. “Owwkaayy…uhm, well I think my dad likes you.”
“Really?”
I nod, “yea, he’s calm when he met you. Maybe it’s because of your aura. So gentlemen and kind. Like, many girls would drool all over for you…”. To be honest, I get so comfortable around him. Like I’m safe if he’s there. I don’t know where I get this feeling but it starting to disturb me.
We finally arrived at Ash’s home. Poor Ryan…still have to carry those heavy boxes in his own. “Are you not going to help Ryan?” I asked Ben beside me inside the car while he’s enjoying the punishment of Ryan. “Nope…Ayla said he’ll do it on his own.” I giggled at his remarks.
We could hear their small bickers from Ash’s front porch. I saw her sister waving at me and I gladly wave her back. Silence fell on us and still thinking about how to start a conversation with this cute guy beside me. I heard him heave a deep sigh. I looked at his side profile and…I don’t know what to say.
“Hey Trina…” I hummed in response. “How long have you been with Ayla?” I narrowed my brows in confusion. “Five years…may I ask why? Oh…you like her don’t you?” I teased him. “What? No…I’m already in love with someone else.” He said and went to daydreaming. Now I’m curious. “If you’re in love with someone else…then why are you asking about Ayla?” He sighed again. This time, his smile turned down and sadness filled in his beautiful eyes. “Ayla just reminded me of someone…well two of them actually. The way she cares for you including us and…she always says the right words. And how strong she was even though she smiles through her pain.” Ben said. Now a bit happy.
I suddenly remembered about how Ayla went through so much pain when we’re still not friends. “Ayla was the reason why I’m still standing till now.” He looked me with confusion and I continued. “I was so immature before. I got lost in my own path and a troubled kid. Ash too. Then Ayla came into our life. She guides us through our messy journey. She’s always there for us when we needed someone to lean on. Like how I’m dealing with heartbreaks before…and getting drunk.” Ben snorted. “As expected from the Alcoholic Princess…” I laugh.
“What I didn’t believe is that she’s doing things on her own again. She was working multiple jobs and bought a house that me and Ash didn’t have a single clue.” It’s still frustrates me about it. The way she lied to us and bought a house secretly. Great…
“At least you should be thankful. You and Ash are so lucky to have her in your life.” He said with a smile. “I’m also lucky that Ryan and the others are my best friend. It’s funny how fate brought us together right?”
I listened…
“I mean…my best friend Ivo is the cousin of your best friend Ayla and then I met you.” He stared at my eyes deeply. Staring back to him, it’s like the world stop turning. My stomach suddenly feels funny. I haven’t felt this feeling in a long time now. Not even wondering to why my heart leaps a thousands of beats. I sensed some de ja vu around here.
“Are you two were going to just stare at each or helping me to open the back door of the car?”
I let out a big huff when Ben went to Ryan in the back of the car. I clutched my chest as I feel it tightened. What was that about? Why am I feeling this way? Who the hell is he? Gosh my poor heart can’t stop beating. “Whoa there sis…what’s wrong?” Ash came to me and held my shoulders. “You’re shaking…are you okay?”
Am I okay? Hah! Of course not!
“I…uh I’m fine. Don’t worry just hungover thing.” Ash nodded but the suspicion in her eyes never left her features. Three of them got inside the car and went towards our destination. Ayla’s house…well…our house.
The whole ride was silent. It’s a miracle that these two stopped bickering. That’s a relief.
“What the…HEY!! THOSE ARE MY CHIPS!! HOW DID YOU GET THAT!!!”
…or maybe not.
Ignoring their bickers, I felt something heavy on my right shoulder. I tilt my head to the side and saw Ben, sleeping soundly on my shoulder. His soft hair tickles my cheeks as I inhaled his attractive scent. I smiled, knowing that this cutie is now comfortable in his slumber. I also had a long day so lay my head to his and stayed in that position.Ben is really something else…
