"Well where are you?" his weirdly deep sounding voice said.
"I'm with Harlow," I said truthfully. "I hate you" I mouthed at her.Which made her giggle. Her cheeks turned bright red from laughter.
He knows. He knows. He knows. He knows.
"Hello Mani, are you still there?" Darren asked me. "Yea I'm still here. I couldn't hear you, what did you say?" I asked innocently. "I said if I go next door I will find both of you at home right?" he said, putting emphasis on the 'at home'. "Yeah totally of course" which I immediately regretted finding myself running down the street towards Harlow's house. Good thing she caught on and started running as well. The run wasn't that long since we were only a few houses down.
Harlow and I jumped over her fence and into her backyard. Which was insanely difficult to do. Thank god we weren't in those dresses anymore. We chuched Harlow's backpack behind one of the bushes in the backyard and sat on the patio.
A couple minutes after that is when my oh so amazing brother showed up. "Hey Darren" Harlow was the first to speak. "Hey Har " He said, going for a hug and of course she hugged him back. He let go of Harlow, took a step back from her, and looked at me. "Give me a hug," he told me. This was really weird since he does not like to give hugs. He only hugs Harlow because he's known her forever. Still I walked up to him, stood in front of him, and waited for his unexpected hug. He wrapped his arms around me, gave me a kiss on the forehead, and said "Your hair smells good. Are you using a different shampoo?" "Uh no but thanks anyway," I said awkwardly.
He let me out of his grip and suddenly a serious look appeared on his face. Then he said "You should come home". I didn't say anything and just looked at him.
"Now Mani!" he said sternly." "But you said I could stay at Harlow's tonight since I couldn't go to that party". I tried. I'm a liar.
He knew I was right but he shook his head and continued. "I don't care, I changed my mind, you're going home now" he yelled.
Tears almost immediately escaped my eyes. "Okay I'm going" I said while looking down at my feet. I turned around to look at Harlow and said "Goodnight I'll see you tomorrow oh and by the way we meet at your locker". "Good night Mani," Harlow said with a half smile.

"Go to your room Madi" Darren said using my real name and with his head in his hands. "Ok" I whispered. If I had spoken any louder I would have cried even more.
***
"Good Morning" I said to my brother who was still in the same spot as last night. He didn't answer. "I said good morning," I said again, a little annoyed.
"You didn't take your meds yesterday," he said, sounding a little sad. "I'm sorry I just forgot" that's all I could say to him. "How could you forget you have been taking it for six years?" he yelled. "That is such a stupid and reckless thing to do you could have gotten hurt or worse, I was finally starting to trust you Madi but now you go and you sneak out and not take your meds. Oh and when you sneak out try not to let your hair reek of alcohol. You are going to get hurt one day. I'm in charge of you and you do as I say. I only say this because I don't want you to hurt Madi. You are my sister and I love you but you're grounded" he said finishing his lecture. By this time I couldn't stop crying.
I hate crying.
"Hey stop crying," he said awkwardly, trying to hug me. "Stop. Don't touch me" I said pushing him away from me "You don't love me Darren".
"You want me to suffer more than I already have, you want me to never live my life happily, I ruined your life. So now you want to ruin mine" I said, wiping my tears. "You know what Madi you're right you did ruin my damn life" he yelled at me. I stood there for a second in shock. Did he just. He did.
That's all it took for me to run out the door.
"Where are you going?" He called out. "I'm going for a walk".
Don't know how much I walked far enough that I couldn't hear Darren calling after me anymore. My vision blurred and my eyes puffy, I finally managed to run into something.
