~~~Ponyboy~~~
Back at home for a while, it was finally dinner time.  I'd been starved the whole day.  Me saying that doesn't mean much though.  Darry says I always eat like a horse.
Most of everybody had left.  Two's grandparents were coming over, and his mom made him stay home and eat dinner with them.  Johnny went home for a little while, just until his parents were to come back, then he'd duck out again.  Steve's dad had kicked him out again so he was here, sadly, eating dinner with us.
"So Pony, are you excited to go back to school tomorrow?" Darry asked. He was just trying to make conversation.  He'd been quiet and so had I, but Steve and Sodapop were yapping away.
"Um, not really. I mean nobody's ever really excited to go to school, Dar," I replied.
"Hmm." He continued eating. After everyone had finished, and Steve and Soda were still yapping about at the dinner table, Darry went through a channel or two and found us Looney Tunes to watch.  Roadrunner's my favorite.
A little while later, Johnny came back looking sullen.
"What's the deal, Johnnycakes?" Soda asked thoughtfully, patting him on the back.
"Hearing my ma howl I just found out my dad had a side chick." We all looked down. "He'd been with her for a few years, just after I was born." he said, still looking down. "But then he came here when I was small and never went back to her." It then went quiet.
"Aw Johnny, you can't expect a guy like that to be loyal," Steve commented.
"That's alright," he replied. "It's just, aw, never mind."
"What?"
"Naw, it was silly." Just then, the prettiest girl I'd ever seen walked through the door. Soda whistled.
"Oh I'm sorry," she said.  "Wrong house." She started turning around, but then came back around.
"You do know your door isn't locked, right?"
"We leave it open," I said.
"But what if somebody comes into your house and takes something?"
"I don't think we have anything worth taking," I replied. She laughed.
"Well I'm sorry I came in, I live next door.  I don't pay attention to the numbers. All the houses look the same."
"I didn't know a looker like you lived next door, little lady," commented Steve. She blushed. I could hear Soda whispering, "She'd be so fine for the kid." He meant me.  Sometimes he tried to set me up.  But I hadn't had much feel for girls yet.  I think this one might change that, though.
"What's your name, next door neighbor?" Darry asked.
"Marina Sera," she replied. "I'm Marina. My mom and I just moved next door."
"What about your dad?"
"I never knew him," she said. "My mom says he was not a good person and took advantage of her."
"I'm sorry," Darry replied.
"That's alright, you had nothing to do with it."
"Would you like someone to walk you home?"
She peered around at any one of the boys who could take her the few feet back home.
"Sure," she replied happily.
"Hey, can you take Marina home?" He asked me.  I had zoned out staring at her.  She had beautiful, long dark hair, and big gray eyes. She looked about 14 or 15.
