Wait For It

262 5 13

[Burr:]
Theodosia writes me a letter every day
I'm keeping her bed warm while her husband is away

"Write that down, we might be able to use that." Thomas whispered to Maddison.

He's on the British side in Georgia
He's trying to keep the colonies in line
But he can keep all of Georgia
Theodosia, she's mine

"Someone's a bit possessive, aren't they?" Thomas said.

"Shut up Jeffershit, you own slaves. You aren't one to talk about that!" Hamilton shot back

Love doesn't discriminate
Between the sinners
And the saints
It takes and it takes and it takes
And we keep loving anyway

Washington smiled and thought of his Martha and John, it was so true.

We laugh and we cry
And we break
And we make our mistakes
And if there's a reason I'm by her side
When so many have tried
Then I'm willing to wait for it
I'm willing to wait for it

As the song went on Hamilton felt terrible.

"You know, I haven't met Theodosia, but I bet she is lovely." Hamilton whispered to Burr.

[Burr:]
My grandfather was a fire and brimstone preacher
([Men:] Preacher, preacher, preacher)
But there are things that the
Homilies and hymns won't teach ya
([Men:] Teach ya, teach ya, teach ya)
My mother was a genius
([Women:] Genius)
My father commanded respect
([Men:] Respect, respect)
When they died they left no instructions
Just a legacy to protect

Everyone in the room that had emotions (Looking at you Jeffershit) felt bad for Burr, except for Theodosia, Burr was all alone in the world. Burr was staring at the TV silently, he hadn't said a word since this song began.

[Burr/Ensemble:]
Death doesn't discriminate
Between the sinners and the saints
It takes and it takes and it takes
And we keep living anyway
We rise and we fall
And we break
And we make our mistakes
And if there's a reason I'm still alive
When everyone who loves me has died
I'm willing to wait for it (wait for it)
I'm willing to wait for it

Burr, you aren't alone." Hercules said sincerely.

"Oui, you are our friend." Lafayette added, enveloping Burr in a hug.

Wait for it
[Ensemble:]
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
[Burr:]
I am the one thing in life I can control
[Ensemble:]
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
[Burr:]
I am inimitable
I am an original
[Ensemble:]
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
[Burr:]
I'm not falling behind or running late
[Ensemble:]
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
[Burr:]
I'm not standing still
I am lying in wait

"Aren't those the same thing?" Philip asked his mother.

"No, if you are standing still then you are just sitting there with no intention, if you are lying in wait then you are waiting for something." She responded.

[Ensemble:]
Wait
Wait
Wait
[Burr:]
Hamilton faces an endless uphill climb

Burr scowled, this was supposed to be his song. But like always, it goes back to Hamilton.

[Ensemble:]
Climb
Climb
Climb
[Burr:]
He has something to prove
He has nothing to lose

"Well I got married and have a son so, I wouldn't say that." Hamilton joked, trying to lighten the mood.

[Ensemble:]
Lose
Lose
Lose
Lose
[Burr:]
Hamilton's pace is relentless
He wastes no time
[Ensemble:]
Time
Time
Time
[Burr:]
What is it like in his shoes?

"Probably very tight. I mean he is very short." Thomas said conasendingly.

Hamilton doesn't hesitate
He exhibits no restraint
He takes and he takes and he takes
And he keeps winning anyway
He changes the game
He plays and he raises the stakes
And if there's a reason
He seems to thrive when so few survive, then Goddamnit

[Burr and Company:]
I'm willing to wait for it

"Wow, I didn't know you felt like that Burr." Hamilton said solemnly, making a silent oath never make fun of Burr for being so circumspect.

(wait for it, wait for...)
I'm willing to wait for it...

Life doesn't discriminate
Between the sinners and the saints
It takes and it takes and it takes
And we keep living anyway
We rise and we fall and we break
And we make our mistakes
And if there's a reason I'm still alive
When so many have died
Then I'm willin' to
[Burr:]
Wait for it...
[Women:]
Wait for it...
[Men:]
Wait for it...
[Burr:]
Wait for it...
[Women:]
Wait for it...
[Men:]
Wait for it...
[Women:]
Wait for it...
[Men:]
Wait for it...
[Women:]
Wait for it...
[Men:]
Wait for it...
[Women:]
Wait for it...
[Men:]
Wait...

With the song coming o a close, everyone in the room was reminded of those they lost. Rachel, Patsy and John, and so meany others.

"Wow... that as beautiful." Peggy said.

"I know right." Chaos replied as the next song started, "That is one of my favorites."
