Major Avery

The first time I'd seen the Corporal outside of the capital, I had just transferred to the corps.

"Your suite is the last door on the right," Erwin offered as we stood in the corridor of the superiors barracks. "You'll be rooming next to squad Leader Hanji and myself."

As cadets filled the halls, carrying trunks and furniture into the room Erwin motioned to, I nodded.

"Thank you, Commander," I smiled up to the blond man as he began walking down the corridor, avoiding troops and nodding for me to follow.

Complying, I skirted past a pair of cadets carrying a large desk around the corner, narrowly missing them.

I finally caught up with Commander Erwin as he reached the bottom floor of the barracks.

"Now, your office will be situated just next to mine, and you'll set your own hours," Erwin stated, walking briskly down a large stone hallway.

"Yes sir," I spouted back, trying to keep up.

"And here we have the mess hall," he motioned to the open door before us, letting me see the off duty cadets talking joyously and eating well. "Breakfast is at zero eight hundred, lunch at noon, dinner at eighteen hundred."

I nod along and follow after him once again, around the sides of the stables, up the courtyard steps, down the scaffold towers, and back to the offices where we first started our tour.

As we practically cantered back, I heard a brisk pair of leather clad footsteps coming toward us. I peered around the commander, laying eyes on a raven haired, well sculpted Captain; Levi Ackerman.

"Captain Ackerman, I don't believe you've met Major Avery," Erwin mused, a rubbish introduction if I did say so myself.

The sneer that presented itself on my lip as I reached forward to shake the captain's hand was reflected in his own features. We hadn't met, but we both knew of each other.

My mind swiftly wandered to the events of the tribunal, coming off of the stand to take my place in the gallery with Erwin and the others.

As I watched the trial of my little cousin take place, my hand slipped into Armin's, my mind again fogging over.

"He's not doing well for himself," Armin whispered, squeezing my fingers tightly. "If he keeps talking he's going to end up being beheaded!"

"It will be taken care of," Erwin's voice caught my attention, causing my neck to snap in his direction. Without looking down to me, Erwin flicked his hand toward Eren.

From his side, I had watched as a black haired man crawled over the fence of the gallery, and sauntered coolly to Eren.

Before I knew what I was doing, I was attempting to leap over the barrier as the man's boot heavily connected with Eren's jaw.

Two sets of hands instantly grabbed hold of my limbs and torso, pulling me back over the rail as I had almost made it over. The small of my back hit with a heavy thud against the wood, causing my teeth to clench, if possible, even harder until they were almost being ground.

"Leave them, Major," Erwin growled in my ear as he pulled me back over the barrier. I grasped slightly before he and Armin set me back on the ground beside them.

"You approved this?!" I seethed, my knuckles white agains the wood below my palms.

"It's the only way to prove to the Premier that Eren is controllable," he offered, standing straight backed once more.

I now gripped Levi's hand tightly as he shook it, not giving him the satisfaction of dominance in the gesture. He was my subordinate now.

"Major," he snapped to me.
