Chapter 4

It was almost sun down when we stopped running, the entire day we only stopped twice and both times were to drink some water. "Lets set up camp, we should be far enough away, we will continue in the morning." Ruby said in a hoarse voice, setting her backpack down carefully since we haven't seen any water since the small pond we passed maybe 3 miles back. "ok," I croaked, she handed me a bottle of water. I nodded my thanks and drank half then gave her the rest. She finished it and let out a sigh of relief. we found a low hanging branch and grabbed really thick branches and stacked them against the low branch, making that tent, shaped shelter. We made a fire and warmed up since the air was dropping in temperature. We soon went in the shelter and fell asleep.

The next morning I woke up but left my eyes closed, I could sense Ruby's presences right next to me. I let my eyes flutter open then blinked them a couple of times, letting them adjust to the light. I looked around the tent like thing and saw Ruby just waking up when a thought ran through my mind, sudden and quick, an instinct. Run! Get away quickly! You need to run!

I sat up strait, I always listen to my instinct. I threw the blanket off of myself and crawled quickly to Ruby. I grabbed her shoulder, shaking her since she let her eyes close. "Ruby! Get up! We must leave now!" I whisper yelled at her. She shot strait up. "What's wrong?" She asked frantically taking in my worried expression. "I have a feeling and it is telling me that we have to run." I whispered, grabbing the empty pack and shoving the blankets inside, and throwing the one with water at her. She stood up and slung the pack on her back. "Lets go then." She said stepping out of the shelter with me right behind her.

"Not so fast ladies it would be a shame of you to leave before the party even started." A deep voice said and he emerged from behind a tree. Then 4 slightly less built guys emerged as well.

"I'm sorry boys but we truly must go." Ruby states calmly, she pushed me behind her, blocking their view of me.

"What a shame is then that you don't have a choice." The second guy said and then he lunged at us. I pushed past Ruby and took out one of my knives and charged at him as well. He tried to sweep my legs out, he just missed and fell on his ass, I drove my knife all of the into his stomach, then pulled it out and slit his throat. I turned to see one guy dead on the forest floor one attacking Ruby, the other sneaking up on her. I ran at him from the side and dug my knife into his side. He gasped as I ripped it back out of him he turned and looked at me and punched me hard in the jaw. I staggered backwards. The man ran at me, forgetting his injury. I gasped as I saw his knife I dodged his first stab but he slashed my shoulder causing me to scream. My vision blurred a little as I dug the knife into his throat. He coughed up blood, he spit it some of it on my face. He fell to the floor. I turned and saw the man has gotten the better of Ruby, I ran at them and dug my knife into his ass, effectively distracting him. He turned and glared at me. He shoved me hard making me fall. He slashed Ruby deeply across the leg, she let out a blood curdling scream. "Run! Run! Scarlet! Run!" she screamed again. No I won't leave you! I screamed in my thoughts. I ran at them and dug my knife into his throat. He fell and Ruby screamed, this time out of shock, and pain she fell on to the forest floor, I caught her head before it smacked onto the ground. She was bleeding heavily, from her stomach, and her shoulder. "I'm not going to make it." She croaked. "Ruby... please don't leave me, I know I have only known you a short time but your family to me." I said tears spilling out of my eyes. "Keep going North, you'll find a city they used to call Seattle. There you'll find a rebellion. They're planing to fight the European countries. I love you sister." she said her voice cracking. "I love you too sister," I sobbed when I saw her smile, then the light leave her eyes and her body go limp. I picked up the packs shoving the water pack inside the blanket and clothing pack and looked at the sun and pointed to my left. North, and ran towards Seattle. I love you sister.
