Oh god. I'm so glad to be here right now, guys. This is Not Steve tuning in for a rant about the freaking stupid main characters that seem to be patrolling not only Wattpad but published books in real life.
Note: If the guy abuses you, emotionally, physically, verbally, or anything like that, run. DO NOT STAY AROUND AND TELL HIM YOU LOVE HIM AND WANT TO STAY WITH HIM FOREVER!
Look, I understand it. No joke, I actually do. Sometimes, there's certain circumstances that prevent you from leaving a relationship like that. But when it's simple sadism or stupidity, that's where I draw the line.
More on Mary Sues. If you don't know what a Mary Sue is, thinking of Bella Swan. 'Drop dead gorgeous' but comments on how ugly she is, she's adorably clumsy, smart without even trying and inevitably, she's the chosen one that get's everything. I MEAN SHE HAS A FREAKING MAGICAL BABY!
Anyway, that's a Mary Sue and they're taking over writing. What happened to realistic characters? Girls who are strong and aren't afraid to admit they're beautiful. Girls who are okay with the way they look and the way they are. Girls who are bitches and don't pretend to be nice. REALISTIC GIRLS!
This goes for guys, too. Gary Stus are what they are known as and I'm sure you've seen them around: abs, abs, abs, blank personality, hot, abs.
Or a version of that.
All I'm saying is that if you want to create a Mary Sue, think about it for a second. Think about how you're going to make her different from everyone else. And then when you put her into a situation that is dangerous or scary or thrilling, think about the realistic consequences and actions of that situation. How would you react?
Please, stop it with the stupid MC's. Unless they're meant to be stupid. Then go ahead.
