My eyes practically bulged out of my head. I was surprised at first, but with the amount of pressure he was putting on my pink lips I gave in and started to kiss back. I hadn’t kissed many merman before but this trumped all of them. His lips were slightly chapped. They were rough but passionate.

I came to my senses and pulled back quickly. I had just met this boy two days ago. What was I doing? If this kept going I could end up like Clamilla.

The room was silent and I swam across to Click Click’s cage and just stared off into nothing. I had to think about what I was doing. What was Harry doing? He just met me and I’m a whole other species than him. Was he crazy? Was I crazy?

“H-Harry why did you do that?” I said without turning around.

He didn’t say anything. I turned around and he was looking everywhere but me. I raised my arched eyebrows at him. He still didn’t answer. I violently thrashed my tail in the water. It caused him to look up at me. I knew it would do the trick.

“Harry.”

“I-I don’t know why I did that.”

“I don’t know why you did either.”

We just stared at each other. No fish saying anyfin to one another. It seemed like a never ending staring contest.

“What did you mean by doing that, Harry. Do you like me?”

He seemed deep in thought. “I-I don’t know why I did that. We were just having a good time and I just felt the need to kiss you.”

“Do you like me like that?”

He looked at everything before he sputtered out, “No.”

I felt my insides cave in. I felt all the little fishies in my stomach swimming around get eaten by a shark. I felt like I had just been caught on a hook by a fisherman and he was going to eat me.

I couldn’t show emotion to him. I just met him two days ago. I did save his life though. With all the strength I had left- which was zero to none- I forced a small smile.

I nodded my head.

“God why did I say that? I’m so stupid. Waverly I d-“ I cut him off.

“Harry, stop. Friends?”

His face fell. I brushed it off before he murmured, “Friends.”

It was dead silent after that. That was until Arabella came bursting through the door. I couldn’t thank her enough for being always around and having no clue as to what’s going on.

“HEY GUYS!”

“Hey,” Harry and I said in unison.

She looked confused. “Did something happen between you two last night?”

“NO! Nothing happened at all,” I said too quickly.

“I could cut the tension in this room with a shark’s tooth.”

“It’s nothing Arabella let it go.”

“Alrighty…. Oh! Waverly I ran into Mafisha in the hall. She wants to see you.”

Mafisha was my sister. She was one of the one I tolerated the most. All my sisters were annoying. She was less annoying. I didn’t have her around my merman friends that much because she was one of the prettiest mermaids in our village. Her seashells had to be specially found to cover her up.

I approached her door and knocked. She opened the door and immediately said, “I’ve heard you had a merman in your room for the past two days.”

Carp. I nodded my head.

“Can I see him? I love new merman!”
I couldn’t tell her no, she would be suspicious. So I led her to my room.

Her eyes practically popped out of her head when she saw Harry.

“Where did you find this boy,” she nudged me, “His SeaNA is perfect.”

“He’s Arabella’s cousin.”

“Do you like him or can I get me some?”
“I heard he swims for the other side of the sea…….”

“Barnicles. You can never be too sure about that.”

That’s when Harry turned towards us. He was talking to Arabella.

“Mafisha this is Harry. Harry this is Mafisha,” I said montonously.

Harry bit his lip. He couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. I knew it was a bad idea to bring her in here. She couldn’t help being beautiful. She swam into my room. I didn’t even give her permission to her. Rude.

Her and Harry started chatting. It seemed like I was invisible to him. I was used to that with Mafisha though.

I swam over to Arabella. I crossed my arms and just stared angrily at them. Arabella gave me a knowing look. I just brushed her off. Why was I upset? Harry and I were just fish friends. Yeah we kissed. But he even said it didn’t mean anything. He doesn’t like me. I heard it with my own ears.

“Let minnow what’s going on Waverly? I’ve never seen you get this mad.”

“Nofins going on. Harry and I are just friends.”

She didn’t reply, but the look she gave me told me everything.

It felt like hours passed by of just Mafisha and Harry talking and chattering. Mafisha would touch his tail occasionally. I would narrow my eyes at her. That was Harry and I not even fishty fish hours ago.

Mafisha stood up, “Harry and I are going to go back to my room for a bit. I’m going to show him my octopus tentacle collection.”

A piece of me fell apart. But I just smiled and nodded. I had a feeling I knew what they were going to be doing. They weren’t going to be looking at her collection.

“I’ll be back later, Waverly,” Harry said to me. I just nodded and didn’t even look in his direction.

Once they left and I heard Mafisha’s door shut I let out the loudest scream I could. If I could cry I would be right now. Arabella looked scared.

I then faceplanted onto to my bed.

Arabella slowly stroked my hair.

My door was flung open. I sat up and looked to see who it was.

Harry hovered there. “Waverly why did you kiss back?”
