Enjoy, darlings!Edward's POV
It was all about perception in certain situations. Instinctual retinal accommodation was a factor to this said perception. We perceive sudden changes and adapt to them or modify them to fit to them in order for us to process it all. It was a proven fact. Factual evidence.
That being said, I was not ready for the grandeur that is Bella Swan; the perceptual dismantler. That woman was a fucking sight for sore eyes.
It seemed to never end with her. Here she comes into our established group and it was like the missing piece to a puzzle that we didn't know was missing. Her intelligence shined through her brown, doe eyes, along with her knack at spotting bullshit. She spotted mine at first glance.
In all honestly, I was never a one-woman guy. There was just never any time for those type of commitments. I tried the relationship route once...didn't end well. Not at all. Tanya was your common hour-glass figure blonde who expected way too much out of me. Like being by her side all hours of they day, for example. Yeah, not possible.
I cut the ties with her when she started talk about marriage. I was gone a week later. Both Alice and Rosalie were on my ass about it being a dick move, but they hated Tanya all the same. I guess it was a girl code thing.
Whatever.
Bella was different though. She never took anyone's crap, which in many cases, was necessary with the men that were a part of this field. Although, after becoming informed of who was her father and coming to terms of what she must of have had to endure after that - I felt like she deserved to be respected. Not have to deal with putting up with my crap.
I had to respect her as my partner and as an individual. Even if it met ceasing any advances.
It has proven to be incredibly hard. Pun intended.
After witnessing her discreetly assaulting Black after his shameful fowardness - really, the guy was worse than me and that said a-fucking-lot - I couldn't help but hold a deep admiration. The woman was exceptional.
But yeah...respect.
"So what did you and Grant speak of?" Emmett asked impatiently.
We had all came together at the Seattle Police Department and were currently seated in one of the large meeting rooms. In situations where the FBI was called in, we either were scorned upon and seen as overly ostentatious or we were well respected. It varied on many occasions. In this case, it was the latter.
"Edward had called me to inform me of a...connection he thinks to have found between Henry Parker's death and a prior murder that has yet to be solved," Grant explained to the the team.
"You're talking about the murder in Forks in '08 aren't you?" Bella directed at me. I grinned - she caught on quick.
"Precisely. I was actually called on to assist the case but I was just getting situated at the time but I was keeping tabs on the whole situation."
"Yes, of course. I feel rather..incompotent at not thinking of it sooner. I was called in," Bella stated with a sudden alertness.
I was taken aback. She was only twenty-nine years old, the Forks case was four years ago, she could've only been twenty-five at that time. At that time, I was only twenty-six and was having trouble adjusting.
