I was to rule the land

I was to rule the land. Protect every type of soul spread across Narnia. I left selfish for how frequent my family popped into my mind. Every person around me as someone they love going into the battle. I was supposed to take care of them all and yet I cared more for others. Though I did not see that changing soon, after knowing Ashton in her early years, I know the dangers of ruling with my heart over my head. I needed to be selfless, to care for the many over the few. I needed to protect my country and believe my country would also protect me and my family in return. And I prayed they would return.

Every ruffle in the castle surrounding trees was not left unchecked, looking for either our men, or theirs. But when the first group appeared it was hard to miss, Ben roared upon his arrival, alerting the entire castle. I spied them on the outskirts and called out the guard to their location. During this time, they instructed me to not leave the grounds, but when I saw the body draped over Ben's back, covered by a sheet,  my breaking heart led me.

I pulled up my dress, running as fast as I could across the courtyard and to the group. I could only gain an ounce of control when I saw Edmund emerge from the woods, holding Allie tightly. I lost all that control again as tears flooded my eyes. A soldier got to Edmund first, taking Allie from his arms as he directed them to take her to the infirmary.

As soon as she had his back to him, he no longer had the need nor energy to be strong anymore. He fell to his knees just as I reached him. I threw my arms around him on the ground, grateful to see him.

"Peter? Susan? Ashton? Theo?" I spit out the names quickly, trying to get any information.

"We split up." He said, his eyes burning into the ground with no focus. "We got ambushed. I couldn't stop it. I couldn't do anything. Mason Hood... he- he betrayed us." His voice started cracking with each sentence. He spoke fast, trying to get it all out before emotion took over. "I lost her."

"Lost who Edmund?" I question in worry.

"Ash-" His voice was shallow.

My heartbeat was faster than ever, my eyes looking back at the sheet covering the body.

"No- No- Aslan No-" I choked on my own breath. "She wouldn't have. She can't be dead."

I walked over to the body, prepared to pull back the sheet, praying with everything left in me that I would not see the pale, senseless body of Ash underneath it. Edmund grabbed me before I could and enveloped me into a desperate hug. "That's Robin." He painfully whispered in my ear. "They took Ash. Ben refused to leave her side, he offered his capture as well."
