"Biana, wHaT is Fall Break?" Sophie had been trying to get a straight answer for what felt like hours, but she was only ever met with giggles. She supposed it was because she thought that Fall Break was a break in fall where summer happened, but seriously, how was she supposed to know?
"Fine. I'm going to ask Keefe," she sassed, and to her delight and dismay, Biana immediately sobered up and winked at Sophie.
"Have fun!" Biana collapsed back on the bed, probably exhausted from her laughing fit.
"Ugh! Why can't you just tell me?!" She shouted. She hasn't actually wanted to ask Keefe, she just wanted Biana to tell her.
"No, I think you should ask Keefe," Biana decided. "Bye!" She waved, and Sophie rolled her eyes and stalked out. She got about halfway down the hall before realizing she didn't know where Keefe's dorm was.
She hurried back to her own dorm, only to find that Biana had locked her out. "I know you can hear me!" She shouted at the door.
"No I can't!" Was Biana's ever so helpful response. "His room number is 126, he's got his own tower, though rumor has it that his parents insisted it be built especially for him, but don't mention that." Biana rambled on. So much for not hearing her.
"Thanks," Sophie grumbled as she ran down the hall. She tried to glance at the numbers as she passed them, but it was pointless because apparently she was looking for a tower?
She finally found a door that didn't have any animal markings on it, though she could faintly make out a 126 where Keefe probably ripped the numbers off. Sophie found the handle was unlocked, and walked up the short, winding staircase to Keefe's door.
Her knock was met with lots of scrambling and noise from the other side. She decided to peek in and see what Keefe was doing.
He looked like he was stacking and hiding...paper? Or photographs? Sophie quickly shut the door so he didn't see that she saw whatever it is he was working on.
"I swear, if you're one of my parents, I have this door rigged with so many pranks you wouldn't know what hit you!" Keefe shouted through the door.
"It's a good thing I'm not one of them!" She called back.
The door opened faster than Sophie's eyes could track. "Hey, Foster. What are you doing here?" Keefe ran his hand through his hair.
Sophie sighed, walking past him into the dorm. It was actually cleaner than she expected from Keefe. "Biana won't tell me what Fall Break is."
Keefe frowned. "That's it?"
Sophie shrugged. "Yeah. She was being very rude and evasive. I think she wanted me to come here." She said, thinking back to their conversation.
"Well fall break is just a week or so of no school to give students a break. We basically get one each season. Summer break is the longest, followed by winter break, and then spring and fall are usually pretty equal, though if they're different, spring is longer." Keefe explained. Sophie wondered why Biana had refused to tell her. It was so simple. She figured Biana probably had ulterior motives .
All she said out loud, was, "Oh."
Keefe studied her. "Was that all?" He asked quietly.
Sophie wanted to say yes and leave, but she just couldn't bring herself to. "Ye- wait, no. I need to you to explain Christmas and thanksgiving," she lied. Biana had actually told her about those...she walked over and plopped herself on Keefe's couch. Though she couldn't see his smile, it was there in full force.
It was several minutes before Keefe appeared again, though he had popcorn and some sort of hot drink, so Sophie let it slide.
She raised her eyebrow, deciding to mess with him. "What's this?"
To her satisfaction, he blushed. "Well, I, uh, figured you were staying for a while?"
She laughed. "Maybe I will. So what do people do for fall break?"
"Based on that, I figure Grady and Edaline don't have any plans?" Keefe asked, and Sophie sensed a little pity in the words, or was it sympathy?
Sophie shook her head. "No. I don't see them much, and I think they prefer it that way." She could see why, seeing as it would be easier to let her go if they weren't close to her.
Keefe smiled, though it seemed more like a grimace. "Welcome to the club. I'm the President though, because my parents made plans and just didn't include me in them." He bragged. "I didn't want them to, but it's nice to have the option." Keefe assured her, probably not wanting the pity that was surfacing in her heart.
"What do we do for this club?" She asked, wanting to keep their conversation on a lighter topic.
Keefe grinned. "We have the best Fall Break out of everyone."

Two weeks later, Keefe and Sophie were on their way to a carnaval a couple hours away. They had invited Tam and Linh to join them in the "Our Parents Could Be Better Club" as Keefe called it, but the two had other travel plans. Fitz and Biana were off with their family on some fancy vacation, and Dex had gotten embarrassed when she asked about his plans. She assumed he was going with Biana by the way they kept throwing glanced at each other....but if there was one thing that had been drilled into her head, it was to mind her own business.
Sophie had actually been studying carnavals-what they were, what happened at them-just so she wasn't too annoying with her questions. Keefe was kind enough to drive them there and pay for a lot, so she wanted to make this the best fall break she could, especially considering Keefe's own parents refused to include him in their plans.
"So what do we do first?" She asked curiously. She had studied so much, she wasn't sure how's they would possibly fit everything into three or four days.
Keefe's grin was wicked when he replied, "Oh you haven't lived until you've tried a deep-fried Oreo."
Sorry for the abrupt ending! I really wanted to post, and I knew if I went on to the carnaval it would take sooo much longer. Also the "carnaval" will be modeled off of things my town has/does, so if it doesn't sound right I apologize.
QOTD: Try to make up a new ability? I would probably say something like a Metamorphagus from Harry Potter. (Is that how you spell it?)
