DJ's POV
As soon as the doors of the elevator opened I stepped out before Harry, letting go of his hand, turning to look at him, as I walked backwards down the hallway to his room. "I'll tell you one of the things I did to make me feel better while I was back at my parents," I don't know why I was telling him this right now. I just felt comfortable and giddy and I wanted him to know I still thought about us.
"What was that?" Harry asked.
"I made a playlist that I called You & Me and I played it any time I would think about us together," I said, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Oh," he said looking at me before it clicked. "Oh!" He said, his eyes going wide and his face turning pink. Looking at him blushing, thinking about what I just said, brought a chuckle to my lips. I let the laugh bubble up. I continued to walk backwards and laugh until I felt my heel catch on the old carpet of the hotel. I could feel my body falling backwards and I pinched my eyes shut not wanting to feel myself hit the ground. But before I could barely even fall I felt a hand come around my wrist and pull me forward and into his body. I quickly wrapped both of my arms around him, my eyes still glued shut as I tried to slow my breathing. His arms came around my back and pulled me deeper into his chest.
"I will never let you fall," he said into my ear. I took a deep breath nodding.
"Thank you, Harry."
"Always, DJ."
Harry's POV
As I held DJ in my arms, I could feel her physically shaking. She really did not like falling, even from such a short distance. I just continued to hold her, not wanting to let go until she was ready. Her breathing slowly became normal again as she peeled her arms off of me and put them back down by her sides. She turned her head up to me, her eyes meeting mine. She nodded at me, before turning around. She took a deep breath and slowly placed one foot in front of the other, making her way down the hall once again. I followed behind her, reaching into my back pocket grabbing the room card out. DJ stopped in front of my door and I quickly put my key in, waiting for the green light, before twisting the handle and pushing the door open. I held it open letting her step in. She made her way through the threshold and as she did I noticed the slightly open back of her shirt. Seeing her back brought back the memory of many of my sleepless nights, due to nightmares.
"DJ?" I said, slowly closing the door behind us.
"Yes?" DJ stopped in her tracks turning her head to look back at me.
"There is something that has replayed in my mind almost everyday since you left and I really need you to tell me. I need to know." I turned towards her. She moved her head back forward and I watched as she took another deep breath nodding. "Your back," I said.
"My back," she said at the same time. "Yeah I expected that." She moved towards my bed, turning to sit down with a sigh before she looked up at me. "My high school experience was weird. I never really had any friends but at the same time I was friends with everyone. I never had one place I fit in and I traveled from friend group to friend group, trying to fit in somewhere, but instead of finding my people, I was just lonely and spent every weekend alone." She stopped talking to take another breath and I wondered what any of this had to do with why her back looked the way it did before she left, but I stayed quiet, knowing she probably wouldn't be saying any of this if it didn't have a point. She looked down at her hands before continuing.
"I was always alone, spending every weekend wishing that I was someone, anyone, that someone might want to invite over, or invite to one of the legendary parties I always heard about. Not that I was much of a partier or anything, but I had never been invited to one so how would I know what I liked and didn't like?" She stopped to take another breath and I just continued to listen. I moved closer to her, bringing myself up to the wall closest to the bed and sliding down it so I was sitting on the floor looking up at her as he told me her story.
