Two Years Later
Tine's POV
"I'm honoured to inaugurate the GMM Solaris Gateway, the very first urban commercial development project of this scale to grace our beautiful city's skyline. I am proud of my son, Tine, MD of GMM Constructions, and my son-in-law, Sarawat, CEO of DesignWT and the Chief Architect. Without further ado, I declare GMM Solaris Gateway open for business" said Dad, amidst thunderous applause.
Wat and I smiled at each other in delight. Our first project together was a roaring success.
"Time to do the rounds" he sighed, and headed towards a group of city councilmen, a welcoming smile on his handsome face. I frowned when I saw some women giggling shyly as he passed them.
Wat was too hot for his own good. And I got jealous every time someone threw a longing look at him.
"Stop making that face, Papa" said Win, tugging at my hand. He had grown tall.
I knew it was impossible, but I could swear he looked like a mixture of Wat and me, with his wavy hair, impish smile, bright eyes, dimples and charm.
I stuck my tongue out at him. He laughed and ran to where Grandma was chatting with a group of her friends. He whispered something in her ear and they giggled together.
My heart warmed at the sight. Grandma and Win were best friends.
"Did you try the food? Can I get you something to drink?" I asked Mae, putting my hand around her shoulders.
She looked nervous and uncomfortable around the glitzy crowd that had been invited for the post-inauguration lunch. I squeezed her shoulders to comfort her.
"Is there anything stronger than a coffee around here?" she asked with a chuckle. i laughed and signalled a passing waiter. I lifted two flutes of champagne from the tray.
"Cheers, Mae" I said, clinking my glass against hers. I kissed the top of her head and handed her to Pa, who had joined us. She looked much happier.
"Commissioner Green, thank you for everything. Your guidance all through the project was invaluable" I said.
"It sure was. Ask Wat who guided him through a certain move that makes you go wild in bed" he whispered into my ear and winked naughtily. I blushed and moved quickly away.
Man, Ohm, Fong and Phuak were deep in discussion in one corner.
"So it's settled then. The four of us will drive together to the ferry terminal, and then off we go for three nights of fun on the party island" said Phuak, happily.
"Umm,it will be five of us. I'm bringing my boyfriend" said Man, scratching the back of his head shyly.
"What the hell? Since when do you have a boyfriend?" whisper-shouted Fong.
"We've been in a relationship for just over a year. Before that we were purely physical for a while" said Man, with a soft smile. His expression clearly showed he was in love.
We looked at him, shock plain on our faces.
"No. Not him. Please tell me it's not him" whispered Ohm, looking at the man walking towards us.
Type nodded at us and slipped his arm around Man's waist. Man blushed and his face lit up.
"How did you keep this from us for so long?" I gasped in surprise.
"We wanted to be sure of our feelings for each other before we told anyone else" said Man, looking adoringly at Type.
Ohm, Fong and Phuak looked like a trio of goldfish, glassy eyed, opening and closing their mouths.
"Babe, you have to promise to let loose and be the man who once peed off the hotel roof, drunk out of his wits. The boys and I need this weekend to blow off some steam and celebrate in style. No scaring or scolding them" said Man, firmly and strictly.
To everyone's surprise, Type nodded docilely, his eyes never leaving Man's. "Anything for you, babe."
"Babe" mouthed Ohm soundlessly and looked around at us like he couldn't believe what he was seeing and hearing.
Fong made obscene gestures with his fingers at Man and wiggled his eyebrows.
Man rolled his eyes. "Yes, Type is the top. Can you imagine him bottoming for anyone?"
"Yuck, don't tell us all these details. Type used to be a sacred idol that we used to worship with reverence. Now all I can think about is you both boinking" said Phuak, cringing.
"Did you really pee off the roof of a hotel once?" asked Ohm, the master of noticing details.
Type pinched the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath. It was going to be a long three days. Man would have to work very hard to make it up to him every night.
I moved to where Pear and Boss stood chatting with Dad. Pear happily ran her hand over her swollen belly.
She was due in two months. Her face glowed and she smiled sweetly. Every time he looked at her, Boss grinned like he'd won the lottery.
If there was ever a bigger sap than Wat or me, it was Boss.
Pear rested her head on my shoulder as I hugged her around the shoulder.
"Congratulations, Tine. I'm so happy for you and Wat."
"Thank you, Pear. For giving us both the courage to follow our hearts."
She smiled and kissed my cheek. I chuckled at Boss's jealous expression.
My eyes searched for Wat, I missed him. I saw him surrounded by a group of girls, all trying to get him to eat or drink from their plates and glasses.
I pouted at the sight. It was Boss's turn to laugh at me.
As if he knew, Wat looked across the room straight at me, and smiled. My heart skipped a beat. He could take my breath away with just a curve of his lips.
Sarawat's POV
"How are you, my love" I said, hugging Tine from behind, and kissing the side of his neck.
He sighed contentedly and leaned back into me. "I'm fine, now that you're here".
The party had ended at long last. The guests had dispersed, and Win had gone for ice-cream with the grandparents on both sides.
We stood looking out at the sunset that painted the sky in a technicolour spray of colour, from the highest floor of our building, where we would move to our new office the following day. But today it was empty except for us.
The window-wall gave us a panoramic view of the city and the winding river that gleamed in the reflected light of the orange globe that sunk into it at the horizon. The lights of the night market twinkled on the opposite bank, a little way away.
"Happy Anniversary, my love. I can't believe it's been a year since we got married" I said, resting my chin on his shoulder.
He turned his head and kissed my cheek. "You looked very handsome today. I didn't like the girls hanging around you though" he said, raising his eyebrow in mock exasperation.
I chuckled and nuzzled against him.
"Look at what we built. We made it, Tine. Our dreams have come true" I said, looking around me in wonder, still absorbing the feeling of seeing my design come to life so perfectly.
"My dream came true the day you walked into my office for the first time" said Tine, smiling.
I turned him around to face me. He blushed and looked at me with eyes that shone.
I kissed him softly and rested my forehead against his.
"I love you so much, Tine. You're everything to me."
"And I love you, Wat. I'm nothing without you."
